Ok, im new to the FF Universe and i've recently just purchased Chrisis Core for my PSP, its the first FF game i've ever played and i would like to know, as i would love to get into the FF world, which games are the most important for me to play to understand the story of FF? (In order)

I plan on getting FF13 when it gets released as it looks/sounds brilliant! So any help would be appreciated :)

Each game has it's own unique story. You can start with FF9, then go to FF5, then too FF2, and still not be confused story-wsie. They are all separate except for FF7 and it's spin-offs like FF7: Crisis Core and FF7: Dirge of Cerberus.

Any main game you start with is a good pick. FFX/FF10 was my first one I completed and I fell in love with the series right away.

Whats the story behind this sepiroth guy? (I spelt his name wrong so bad o_O)
And why is he fighting Cloud in one of the games? And which game is that? lol <<<---- NOOB

That is Final Fantasy VII/7.

Cloud is the main character in FFVII and Sephiroth is basically the main villain with a few plot twists thrown at you in the game towards the end. FFVII is arguably the most popular game in the series since it was the first FF game for the Playstation 1 back in '97.

It has a few spin-off games though such as Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, and a movie called Advent Children.

If you want to get into those, I'd say play the main game, FFVII first, then move onto the other spin-off games in the FFVII Compilation. That way you will know the characters more having played the main game before you venture out to the rest of it's games.

FFVII starts immediately after crisis core, so it'd make sense to play that game next, followed by DoC and the movie...cant remember which comes first there >.> Then as Busta says, you can play any FF in order, only the likes of X and XII have sequels to think about

X is a good game though, Id recommend getting onto that one at some point. Although the FFVII compiltion should keep you occupied for a while xD

Infact just play all the games between VII & X if you can, can't fault a single one, and if you have a DS you absolutely MUST play FFIV, difficulty is higher than all the games listed, but its a great challenge ;D

Actually, a growing trend I've been noticing and not been all that excited about is the growing amount of sequels that final fantasy games are getting. I am an OCD completionist who is a danger to himself, so one thing I liked about the FF games was the safety in that there was only ever one game to buy. Now I'm shelling out money for each meh installation of the FFVII series, and they've made a series out of FFX, XI, and XII; FFXIII which isn't even out yet; and then even gone back and made a sequel to FFIV!

Somewhat stated before

As someone stated earlier, each and every final fantasy has it's own unique story. Which means you can completely hate one, but love another. They are even starting to remake all the old games. So you can enjoy the games with improved gameplay. Like Final fantasy III and IV for DS.
