Okaaaaaay, so as a fan of the original series I just HAD to take a look at this. I wasn't sure what to expect but there were a few things that made it look hopeful.

But I'll skip the what sneak peeks told us and all and go into the main deal.

First of all the art is very good. It's probably better quality than a lot of other cartoons these days and that makes me pretty happy. Even back in the 80s the original show had quite a bit of a high standard when it came to the art style. The character designs are largely improved and I especially approve of what they've done with Lion-O, taking off that admittedly odd red afro he had...

As for the rest of the cast, so far I haven't really seen something I wasn't pleased with. Maybe Panthro looks a bit odd, but I suppose that's meant to be a conscious choice on part of the developers as he's supposed to be older and more experienced than the main cast, a veteran. I'm actually happy that Snarf appears to be silent. He was a fun character but he could get seriously annoying. >_<

The story looks like it'll be a bit more driven and linear rather than 'monster of the week' things which'll also be a big step forward as far as I'm concerned. I'm still waiting to see, but killing Claudus on screen in such a brutal, forward manner was really ballsy and I applaud that. They're clearly taking it seriously. Also, it's kind of odd to see Lion-O and Tygra as (adoptive) brothers but I suppose it sort of suits Tygra since he WAS the brains and pretty much the second-in-command even back in the 80s.

Now, what pleased me the most was the quality of the voice acting. It really fleshes out the characters in any cartoon and I usually don't have much to say about it but this is one of those great ones. I particularly like the fact they went that extra mile and had Larry Kenney, Lion-O's original voice actor, do Claudus, Lion-O's dad in this incarnation. They even had him reprise the classic "Thundercats, HO!" battlecry. The man's still got it.

Now on the other hand, the new Lion-O's voiced by one of my favorite voice actors, Will Friedle, and he's doing a hell of a job so far. His version of the battle-cry ain't bad, but I'm hoping he'll do it better in time ;D

The music...I need to sample more of what they're doing to come to a final conclusion, but I think I like it so far.

All in all, it seems like a promising opening to the new series, and I look forward to next Friday to see some more. :3
