Im interested in buying one and was woundering wats a good one to get? The samsung looks nice, good baterry power from wat ive read but id probly need to upgrade the ram and that windows 7 starter crap.

Im going to be leaving on a long trip for a couple years and i want to stay connected so pls any suggestions?

From what I know, netbooks are best for things like surfing the net or word. Not for things like gaming, so it may be for you. I don't know about overheating though.
My dad has one, but I haven't really used it.

They're fairly limited. I do have one, though it has a Linux distro installed which means no MS products, but OpenOffice is just as good. I know you get ones with XP installed so you might want to look into that.

If all you want to do is send a few emails, browse the web and faff about with the usual office type applications they're fine, assuming you can get to grips with the smaller keyboard and screen.:hmmm:

As for overheating...mine never has.

Hmmm, I'd like to know about this too.

My old laptop overheats like crazy, and I'm thinking about getting a Dell netbook, because they're much cheaper than laptops and I really only go on the net.

However, are they literally ONLY for the internet? Or can you download little things onto it?

I work at Target and the little Netbooks are really only things we sell. From what I've gained there and from what I've heard all they are is really small computers...with not much RAM or processing power.

This means you can surf the web, download things, compose Word documents...install any software...

The question isn't really what you can attempt to do (such as gaming or downloading) but what it can handle with the hardware available. It won't be able to game or have multiple applications running at once (I'm talking big ones, not notepad and calculator) without slowing down. It can do everything any other computer can except play games fast and whatnot. I imagine the ones you are looking at don't have an optical drive or an Ethernet port.

As for overheating that isn't really based on whether it's a desktop, laptop, or Netbook. They all have fans that circulate the air and whatnot, and that question is more on a computer by computer basis, though I'm sure there are some trends that can be noticed. I wouldn't think they would, because quite frankly your computer can't do anything (like playing World of Warcraft) that would really heat it up to begin with.

When asking yourself if it can run a certain program, don't look at the fact it's a Netbook, but look at the RAM, storage, etc. Laptops and Netbooks could switch names all of a sudden and it wouldn't change what either of them could do.

(Frankly I wouldn't ever get a Netbook, I just got a laptop that I'm typing from now. But I also play games and want the ability to do many other things that require RAM and whatnot, whereas if your just typing on your Netbook then that's fine for you).

I believe some have replaceable batteries, you may want to look into that if you may go awhile without somewhere to charge up.
