Hey all,

I was wondering if there is a website that comprehensively explains and lays out EVERYONE and EVERYTHING in FFX. Explanation and analysis of the storyline, how the characters fit into it, basically everything and anything that is you need to know to understand and appreciate the story. I looked everywhere and can't find anything. I need explanations, because without them, I'm completely lost as to the world of FFX, the people, and the story. I mean, I have a VERY GENERAL grasp, but nowhere near what I want to so I can appreciate it, and frankly understand it. It's not very intuitive, at least for me.

THANKS!

You can try Final Fantasy Wiki or Wikipedia itself. Both are great help and explain everything well ;)

My suggestions:

1). Listen to Miyuki's suggestion... ie, check Final Fantasy Wiki or Wikipedia.

2). Perhaps play the game again.

3). If you find anything out, let me know, because I want to know too.

You should know that an analysis of a story that's supposedly symbolic like Final Fantasy X, should be left to you and you alone. Because one person's interpretation of a story does not dictate that it was intended as such by the writer. Art is supposed to be interpretive and intuitive. You should play the game again and ask yourself what everything means, and if you have an intuitive sense of what it could mean, then that's probably what it means to you, if you're looking at is from an artistic perspective.

If you're looking at it from a storytelling perspective then I'm sorry to say that the game technically has sloppy writing. Some things are contradictory to each other, the transitioning of "areas" as I should say is poorly handled, the composition of Spira is implausibly simplistic, the characters could have made better decisions, and the list goes on. I'm telling you this, because these things could have contributed as a factor to why you would need an analysis or an explanation to fully appreciate it, where in fact it probably just isn't as good.

thanks everyone for their input. I will def. take a look at the wiki thing and see where that takes me. Sultan, I understand putting your own interpretation on the story would help, but for me, and as you pointed out, I look at it as a story and want to be told the story, not imagine what it should be. I def. don't have the patience to play it again, but I'll just watch videos from FFwalkthrough instead of playing it

wow, JamJamYea, that'd be a long conversation if you wanna know them all ^^

maybe you could tell us which part that you confused of? I would like to tell it if you want ^^

I've given FFX a few good run-throughs, and each time I find stuff I miss. So playing through it a few times is by far the biggest help to solving a lot of your questions. I know that there is a lot that won't be answered by simply going through the game. There's a lot we can't understand or is left to speculation. However, there are points that each person will miss when playing through it that others will pick up on, so searching the internet like people have stated is definitely a good idea, but don't take it all as fact.

Take into account who each character is, how they relate to others, know their history, their expressions and reactions to certain parts of the game. Like in the the Thunder Planes when Rikku is scared to go there, you find out later what happened to her in the past which explains her fear. Also something like Auron and his refusal to go to the Farplane which is explained later in the game, but people skipping through the game rapidly may overlook some narration or quick comments made by Auron that might make the situation a bit confusing.

Just search around, ask on the forums, and you can never go wrong by gathering as much input and opinions from people on this site as well.

If you do decide to play the game again, try to focus on some of the allusions to relgion (that generally play out in all FF games in some manner or another). The farplane, Sin, the pilgrimage, the final sacrfice, spiral of death, etc... There's a bunch of crap the developers threw in there so be sure to focus on those aspects as well as why the developers decided to put those things in the game. It'll give you a more holistic meaning (or understanding) of the game if you can catch the between-the-line stuff that goes past all the big swords and magic and nifty locations.

IMO this is usually the most difficult thing to piece together and understand, but it's also the most fulfilling as well (at least for me).

Of course the websites listed above will help you understand it well, but for me playing it more helped me a lot.

The first time I played it I understood Tidus' role in the story, but each time I replayed it I began to understand a little more depth into Tidus. I also began to appreciate the other characters I never used more (like Lulu and Rikku) in both storyline and battle mechanics.

About the 5th time I played the game I cemented it into one of my top 5 favorites. I absolutely love the game, and will always replay it. I'd say play it again! :D

I would suggest playing 7-9 of the final fantasy series and then going back to play that. You'll see how Square Enix gets the meaning of love and courage off in different ways.... They easiest story to understand I would say is FFVIII

oh yea, totally hitted up the wiki for FFX and X-2 and COMPLETELY understand it now. phewww glad that's over! Story totally rocked. Though, I am confused.... is Titus with Yuna in the perfect 100% completion ending or did she just get to see him for a bit?

Tidus comes back to reality because a 100% clear game does that in Spira. And X means 10, VII means 7. VII is not related to X in any way.

well shinra was trying to figure out out to extract energy from the Farplane and was adament about figuring that out, though he probably wouldnt figure it out in his lifetime. Him and Rin got together to further investigate and start a partnership together and then WAH LA 100's of years later Shin-Ra and Mako energy!! WOO!
