Hey guys, sorry for having to post this, but I can't find my USB cable and I need to hand this in today, so, since for some reason this site isn't blocked by their filters, I'm posting it here to simply copy and paste and then print it out. Kthnx. And please, I know it's bad, it's grade ten History (not one of my strong subjects, esspecially considering I'm more of a physical person then book worm), and it doesn't even get marked, it's only marked for completion. Now I have to go run my ass to school and hope my teacher doesn't kill me :holyshit: .

Activity 2

1 a) Someone who migrates to another country, for work, family or personal leisure.
b) Immigration was important because the government needed people to work and settle in the land, and because they were needed to create a good economy. They were bassically needed to just fill the country with people.

2 Approximately 3 million people immigrated to Canada between 1896 and 1914.

3 a) These immigrants generally came from America, Britian, Europe and Austria.
b) It's important because it shows that Canada has stayed true to what it started out as; a country that accepts people from all over the world.

4 a) Clifford Sifton was the Minister of the Interior under Wilfrid Laurier.
b) He set up colonial offices in the US and in Europe, which would accept people from said countries and relocate them in Canada.
c) He wants farmers, and people who are poor.

6 No, because if you immigrated, you were most likely going to be a farmer, not a cowboy.

Activity 3

1 An empire is when an entire nation is ruled over 1 specific person, emperor or empress.

2 May 24 is Victoria Day, we celebrate it because it is Queen Elizabeth II, the Canadian Monarch.

3 a) Imperialism is when an Empire takes over land to add it to their own territory,
b) It has a negative connotation to it now because “taking land” is more commonly refered to as “stealing land” and we all know that stealing is wrong.

4 No, because not everyone wanted to be part of an Empire, and being ruled over by a single person. Some people wanted a government to run the show.

Activity 4

1 Only 17.1% of wemon had working jobs.

2 Open jobs for wemon in 1901 were Dressmaking, Textiles/fabrics, Food/lodging/tobacco/drink, Professions, Domestic service, and small others.

3

Activity 5

1 Rural means an open area, a countryside, usually used for land to grow crops.

2 Urban means a highly social area, lots of business and commotion occur in this highly populated area.

3 a) One, people were immigrating to Canada, and two, rich people kept building companys and biuldings.
b) Because they always passed down their inheritance to their kids.
c) Others would be frustrated that the poor man was working for the rich man.

Activity 6

1
Activity 7

Canada was discovered by explorers from the British Empire, but when politicians came over to Canada, it was decided that it would be governed by a government, and not by a single person. In order to populate this newfound land, a man named Clifford Sifton made it possible for other countrymen to immigrate to Canada through his offices located at various locations around the world, much like the way one immigrates now; there are a lot of things you must undergo to transfer your citizenship to another country. After the country had been somewhat populated, urbanization began. Certain cities began major cities with a very urban enviranment, these cities remain very large to this day, like Toronto and Montreal. People who worked in the urban parts were most likely to be more wealthy then those who worked in the rural parts. Wemen, however, rarely worked. It was always the man who was bringing home the bacon.

I know this wasn't meant to be commented on, but I have to say, I really feel for you. Grade 10 history was the worst, and I can tell by skimming through this my school district had the same curriculum.

So even if you don't like history, don't worry about it because grade 10 majorly sucks. Believe me when I say that grade 11 is a million times more interesting - you get into the 20th century, and you get into stuff like the World Wars and such. Much more worthwhile than say... the Canada Pacific Railway :P

good luck :)
