Do you think adding more characters is good or bad? I think it would get kind of crowded if they started to add new characters in the sequels (if there ARE sequels...) and they also might run into eachothers fighting styles.

Ideas?

Thoughts?

See, I sorta agree there, but at the same time, I still want to see more characters in it, probably me being greedy, but I want to see more FF characters from different games interect, y'know?

And not just dialogue, I also wanna see more crossover fighting, Eiko fight Relm, Barret fight Golbez, Selphie fight Sephiroth, (obv results, but with a player, maybe they can change that 8F)

Though I do really agree with you about the whole, 'it getting cluttered' thing. The first thing that worries me is them running out of original moves for each character =/ But I'd be happy with just an extra 1 or 2 heroes for each FF.

It's hard to say really. I think that more characters would be great, but if a new character from every FF game was added there would automatically be 10 new characters (and that's not including XI and XII). So the roster would get cluttered very fast.

From my past experience with fighting games, I think that a roster with 20-30 characters seems to work well as it gives players enough variety but it doesn't intimidate people into just choosing a select few fighters every time.

So I think there is space for a few more characters before it becomes too cluttered. But of course if SE decided to include a bunch of pointless characters a la Dragonball Tenkaichi, then it will become too clutered to be enjoyable imo. So if SE were to introduce new characters they would have to be pretty exclusive with their choices which would probably leave a lot of people unsatisfied.

you can bet that if/when the time comes for Dissidia 2, the new characters will be coming from XIII and VSXIII. Which I don't mind one bit :)

there would be 11 new characters really, your forgetting about Shitotto and Gabranth, there the ff 11, and i would love new characters, i would like to see yuna, barret, tifa and heaps more people. If they make a Dissidia 2 , i would like them to add heaps more characters.

It can be done, it just has to be done carefully. They can't go tossing in countless characters from every FF game, even 4 from each is entirely too much. In doing so, character mechanics or set ups can start to get very repetitive, and then that'd cause some to resent the very characters they wanted in.

I think 32 is a good mark, but if you go anything beyond that, then you start to push it.

They have to maintain the individuality of every character.

Although more characters are good, I can't help but agree with the others about 1.) cluttered-ness and 2.) move sets. Personally, I dislike games where characters have almost, if not, the same move sets (ie. Soul Calibur 1. Sorry.) because it does tend to get repetitive and boring. What came to my mind though, about this adding-more-characters thing is that SE can hold some kind of "contest" or survey the fans who they want in the game and select the 4 or 5 characters that got the most votes, but that's just me.

Oh my gawd. I was thinking of DragonBall Z fighting games the whole time. You're right there too. Those games are waaaaaay too cluttered. Way too.

The thing I'm worried about is people running out of moves. For example, try putting Zack and Cloud (hoping you've played VII) and try to make them unique. very hard.

Yeah. I agree. My friend and I made up a chart where we had 6 characters (3 good, 3 bad) from each. It was REALLY HARD. But each of the people we had we're quite unique. Except from V. Their jobs are exchangable. Same with III also. Huh.
