Mixed Martial Arts Anyone?

That was a great fight! I know that I predicted that it would be over fast, but I never in my life expected it to be THAT one-sided. Hughes versus Serra was a great fight, but I felt that Serra took it. Edgar's win was a surprise, but a pleasant one. I actually didn't think he had much of a chance against Sherk, but I put some money on him to add a little excitement. In retrospect a good decision :P

I like Brown, great fighter in a (by the general public) underrated weight class. Still though, you gotta pity Faber over what happened at the WEC the other night. The man definitely deserves a rematch.

Yeah, I'm a big fan, and I briefly practiced MMA, as well as boxing. I need to get back into boxing, tbh. I like MMA better as a sport, both to practice and to watch, but boxing is cheaper and gets you in better shape. :)

I dabbled a bit in Ashihara karate when I was a kid, but never anything serious. Brazilian Top Team has a gym here in Adelaide, so I've been thinking about heading down there and see what it's all about. They have a free introduction class as far as I remember, so why the hell not :)Who knows, I could be the next Nog or Ricardo Arona! (okay probably not :P)

And nice to see a third face in this thread by the way. Got any predictions for UFC 99?

I dunno Rich Franklin is a nice guy and I like him, but he's kind of a has-been now. Then again, Wanderlei really hasn't been doing very well either. If I remember, Franklin has decent positioning on the ground and some submission skills, so he might take the fight there. If they stand up and bang I have to give the advantage to Wanderlei.

And I hope Spencer Fisher wins regardless of who he's fighting, cause he's definitly in my top 3 favorite fighters.

If Faber hadn't broken his hand, Brown would have simply outwrestled him. I don't hink they should have a 3rd match.

Faber needs to cut to bantamweight, he is a small featherweight as he walks around BELOW 145 and eats like a pig to keep his weight up.

Reps spread.

A lot of people don't have much faith in Wanderlei anymore, but I hope and think that he takes this one too. He's my favourite fighter of all time though, so no matter who he fought, I'd never pick against him. I don't know about Rich taking it if the fight goes to the ground though. I know that he doesn't show it that much these days, but Wanderlei is a BJJ black belt and he almost subbed Sakuraba once. Rich probably does have the overall advantage on the ground though, but if I was him, I'd stand and try to test Wanderlei's chin. If he can avoid getting hit, that's probably his best chance. I wouldn't say that Franklin is a has-been though. His fight against Hendo was a close one to call, and he put Hamill and Lutter away pretty convincingly.

My predictions:

Wanderlei Silva vs. Rich Franklin
Spencer Fisher vs. Caol Uno
Cain Velasquez
vs. Cheick Kongo
Marcus Davis vs. Dan Hardy

Winners in bold

I think Faber might have been able to take it, had he not injured his hands. He's got pretty decent boxing and Muai thai, so if he'd kept it standing, he would've stood a chance. Don't think there's any reason for him to drop a weight class though. He's been phenomenal at featherweight, and if he moves down he'll have to deal with Miguel Torres, and I don't think he's about to give his belt up any time soon.

I have to say I didn't really keep up with Pride, so although I've seen clips, I just keep seeing Silva getting knocked out over and over again.

Faber's been phenomenal because he's been fighting weak competition. Jens PUlver was his biggest test and you saw what happened to him. Muay Thai and boxing aside, Brown took him down easily in their first fight.

Some truth to that I guess, but he did defend his belt several times, and I'd still argue that he has nothing to gain from moving down to bantam. His chances against Brown in a third fight are better than his chances against Torres.

I think he has everything to gain going to 135. It's a very dangerous division and a win over Miguel Torres is a huge deal, bigger than one over Brown. Brown walks around at 170, Urijah would be a big bantamweight and his athletecism could give Torres' technical game a huge challenge.

Well I got 2 out of 4 right! :P Sad to see Wanderlei lose again, but even in defeat, he still looked better than he has in a while, so I'm optimistic about his future. Kongo once again proved why he shouldn't be considered a contender at HW: Rubbish takedown defence. It's a shame really, because his striking is crazy good.

Yeah Lesnar physically dominated Mir last time around, and he won't step into a leglock like that again, that's for sure. GSP is favourite to win his bout in my book too, but I'm less certain of that. Alves is on quite the winning streak, and he's huge for a WW. I could see him causing GSP considerable problems.

I'd say Hendo beats Bisping and Akiyama beats Belcher. I hope Jon Jones' fight gets shown, though chances of that happening are probably slim. Bonnar vs. Coleman is probably first in line, and then Danzig vs. Miller.
