max level status

I do believe the top stats finish at 255 as per usual. (I think that's got something to do with the coding will only go so far with the older consoles so that's the farthest they could go, but don't quote me on that.)
HP finishes at 9999 and mp at 999, but don't expect to get that high even at level 99 as the stats don't max for many characters, and the ones that do require special setups if I remember right.
Your stats generally increase based on your equipment and I think there's a guide somewhere on GameFAQ's concerning a 'Perfect Stats' run, meaning that you get every single possible stat you can. (I don't see the point honestly if it's a few points or so.) Just throwing that out there if you wanted to check it out.
Anyway, I think that's it really.

255 is impossible. Just imagine that I'm at 80 LV with Gidan and Quina, and I'm with 34 Speed, 56 strength, 51 Magic and 42 Spirit..

Oh, well I got that disasterously wrong then.
I had a feeling it wasn't right but I was too tired to even check, I should learn from my mistakes.
I do still know that it's pointless to aim for max stats unless it's for a perfect game anyway. I've never even finished a game of FFIX with level 99 characters, I don't think it's as important as it is in the other FF's.
you're right. Probably an attack's damage doesn't reach 9999, does it? With 56 strength I can reach max 2000 with Gidan :S
