Males vs Females

Ashe showed some balls in FFXII; I was surprised.

She was a man, that's why. lol I am looking forward as Lightning as a main character (although I hope they change her name). And honestly, as much as I love lesbians (byaa) I don't want her as one. I don't want any gays or transgendered people in Final Fantasy. It's not that I don't believe in their lifestyle, it's that it's just a bullshit selling point. It's nothing more to catch media attention and that kind of bull... and that's not what FF's about.

Well Tifa was strong. My rosa Sometimes did more Damage than Cecil. And my Yuna Could usaually do 99,999 damage.

Meh, natural I guess, but yes I do, especially with the older games. As stated earlier, I fully agree that the rolls are reversing with Ashe in XII being a very strong warrior and it looks like the main protagonist in XIII will be a strong female as well.

The problem here is political correctness. It's not sexist that the male characters are generally the fighters, it's just that males usually are. If any FF was truely about a physical war, all of the characters would me male.

Luckily FF is fantasy and that means that women can be fighters. Even in legend we have only one band of female fighters, the Amazons. Those self abusive fanatics who removed their right breasts in order to fire a bow accurately. Still, no actual proof that they actually existed.

This brings me back to my original Political Correctness point. Just that men are (with very few exceptions) better fighters than women, most black athletes are better than white atheletes. It's genetics. It doesn't mean that men are better than women, or blacks are better than whites, its just the way we have developed over tens of thousands of years.

Just because I could run faster than most women of my age or be beaten by most black people of my age doesn't really matter does it?

It's character and not our physical abilities that make us who we are. Thats why I like most FF characters, because of their character, not how many HPs they have.

And we also have to remember that the main audience of FF is male, therefore a male lead makes more sense when trying to flog your game. In many ways the FF series has made a huge leap forward in Terra as a lead. I discount FFX-2 because the three lead females are male eye candy.

In V you can give your characters which ever job you want them to have. So you can make the male characters the mages and the females the warriors.

In VI Celes and Terra were pretty competant fighters and Terra was the most powerful character overall.

In VII Tifa and Yuffie have jobs that are traditionally male roles. If you move Aeris to the front line at one point she'll do the most damage since she'll have the most powerful weapon in the game at the time. Of course you can't neglect her. XD

VIII, all the girls are warriors since every character can do magic. I think Rinoa actually has the second highest attack. If you junction the magic right you can make either of them the strongest character in the game.

Freya is IX was a pretty badass dragoon.

As for why the female characters are usually mages, well if you want them to be skinny and cute with very large breasts and wearing little clothing, it's a bit unrealistic to have them be warriors and it looks a bit silly. So a mage job would be more fitting. Now if they proportion her body to that of a warriors then it'd look better. If you have a male character that looks like he's super strong, why make him a mage?

Also these games are aimed more towards males, although the recent FF games seem like they're trying to appeal to both genders since more women are starting to get into gaming.

Thewy based it on the real world, I guess. Men are naturally stronger than females, usually. It's only right to make the men stronger because in most games, men are the heroes, and girls are those "damsel in distress" types.

Yup, hate to sound sexist but, thats reality. Men are stronger than women and have the upper hand (in MOST cases, so dont barrage me with being sexist)

I mean it would be kinda un-natural if women were stronger than the men in FF

Well although you may be referring to physical strength in males, one thing females characters do not lack in, is a different kind of strengh. Like being able to handle situations, and they usually are capable with magic or summons - my example would be Yuna FFX, she is a strong character, brought up as an orphan after her parents died, able to become a summoner, face Sin and deal with the truth about Yevon, and she has magic like Holy and her summons. I know thats only one example but in a lot of the games the females bring out a different kind of strength to 'hack slash' etc. Another 2 would be Tifa and Aerith, Tifa helps Cloud with his memories and is capable of looking after herself, Aerith had courage to pray for Holy etc :-)
But now the girlies can have some 'hack slash' of their own :P

Yea, too bad that doesn't actually exist. Like everything though, people all start with different strengths and weaknesses. And your only limited by those weaknesses by as much as you fail to recognize and correct them.

It's sexist, not only because of the game designers but because of the consumers. If they thought a female lead would be popular, they'd totally do it all the time (we all know SE are money whores, look at the Compilation).

So if any one is sexist, it's more than the designers, it's all of society. So everybody's got a piece of the blame, really.

I dont like how some females are shown as weak characters. Hence why I like Paine, Tifa, Beatrix, Fran and Ashe. Its nice to see some female kick arse characters that wont wait in the wings for help.

Well men are naturally stronger than females so the game is just relying on truth. Hardly sexist but a true fact.

Don't forget Celes, Agrias, Freya and Lulu. Lulu wasn't strong in body, per say, but she was strong-willed, smart and made up for her physical weakness in magic. I'm not so sure about Tifa though...she might have been strong physically, but personality-wise she was weaker than Aeris (and I'm talking about the game, since AC is utter bull).

As a matter of fact, I'd consider both Aeris and Yuna to be pretty strong, since they both did their duty knowing that it would get them killed. A female doesn't have to be physically powerful to be strong, as much or more of that strength can come from their personality and determination.

Mind you i was watching someone play, FF2 i think, the one with Cecil in it, can't remember. What was the name of that prince with the lute? He was absolutely rubbish!!!Kept hiding cus he was hurt and when he became visible he went auto-invis again. And one of his skills was to use a potion or herb or something. Like you can't just use the item yourself. Pain.

FF nearly always balances them out tho don't they.

You're talking about Edward, the bard-prince of the desert kingdom of Damcyan.

Lol, I love they guy, as much as everyone hates him. His hide ability totally saved my ass when bosses would use attacks that killed everyone except him while he was hiding, and sometimes Kain would be alive if I timed his Jump attack just right.

We actually have numerous strong female characters I think.

Examples:
VI - Celes, Tetra
VII - Tifa, Aeris
XII - Ashe
X - Yuna, Lulu
X-2 - Pain
XIII - Lightning (image thus far)

The only thing is they're never really given the spotlight as the main character in the game. Also, as VengefulRonin stated, they don't have to be physically strong to be strong characters. In that respect I think Final Fantasy has a lot of strong females.

Why are all the females in the game weaker than the males? Do you find this sexist? You don't see a White Mage Male or a Warrior Female in the FF games (except X-2).

ya, I know you can build them up and stuff. I am meaning in the beginning. Normally the females characteristics are lower than the males. why do you think?

I don't believe the female characters are weaker. They may not be as capable with physical combat, but they're normally superior magic users.
