#1 really appealed to me.

I like the texture of the background and the warm colours within it.

The floral patterns around them look nice and the blending is done really well.

It goes with the theme well and I really like the fonts used. The little heart in the middle of the 'O' in 'Love' is really cute too. >.<

Great work to all who entered!

This is great. I really like the grainy texture and the way even the blending appears grainy and aged. I think the artist filled out the voids in the background really well with textures and patterns and brushes. In the end even the negative space contributes greatly to the feel, flow, and visual appeal of the piece.

Nice work. Plus the text recalls a really old poster or something for some great play. I thought that was a nice touch.

Good attempt. I like how the artist went for the pop-out look. In the end it looks pretty good and actually kinda counterbalances the large image of Vincent on the right.

However, there are definitely blending issues to be addressed here. That and there's really not much going on in between the white frames. It's a great composition but there's just not much oomph in there for it to work.

Try experimenting with gradient layers or color overlays to add some interest to your photoshop/gimp work. You'll be amazed at what kinds of color combinations work and what don't.

I see you did some work on the text too. I like the low opacity. That way it doesn't take away from the stock image too much. Of course you could always have the text as the focus, but I have a feeling that's not your intent for this piece. >.>

Keep practicing. :-)

I like the concept behind this one. Love of course with the heart in the center representing it. I like the attempt at putting in a variety of different effects, but I'm not really too keen on the kind of effects present here. I mean, tone shades and cool colors don't really seem something that screams 'love' to me, personally. :hmmm:

That being said, I definitely agree with the whole...lifeforce...swirl thing xD. I think that could be interpreted as a certain 'power'.

ON the plus side, I think you did the lighting and text really well. The blending is superb.

So pretty much the colors and choice of effects for cons. It's usually a good idea to just stick with 'warm colors' (yellows and reds) or 'cool colors' (blues, greens, etc.) throughout one piece rather than a combination of them. Like say, since your stock was a heart I would've taken the eyedropper tool, clicked on the heart and use one of the reds to do the color work in the background. It only adds to how unified your piece looks.

Great job though.

This is an interesting choice. On one hand the blending and effects are magnificently executed. The text keeps in line with the monochromatic scheme of everything other than the stock, which contrast really nicely by being colorful (subtly, nice).

The white background was a good choice, I thought because I think the use of the topaz would've made the whole canvas looks really busy and cluttered.

The more I look at it, the more it seems like Homer and Marge are actually moving and I think that's because of the white swirls around their arms and the dancing red lights you put around it.

On the other hand the nice sharp effects seem incongruous to the cartoon. It's minor. Matter of opinion, really. :wacky:
