An economic protester threw green custard over Business Secretary Lord Mandelson today. While I dislike Mandelson, It's rather alarming to think that it's so easy for a protester to get to so close to a Cabinet-Ranking member of government, what if, instead of custard, it had been a gun the woman was carrying? Or a bomb?

Anyway, what do you think? Is protesting like that an effective way of sending out a message - protesting against a new runway at Heathrow - or is it a stupid and pointless way to gain quick publicity?

Also, should the Government step up on Security? It was stupidly easy for that woman to walk up to him, throw her custard on him, and then leave.

Hmmm although I can sympathise with the woman's frustration about the Heathrow situation, she acted in a very immature way. It has made a mockery of their group (Plane Stupid) and she may have cost them some supporters.
I'm alarmed that this woman could just do this and then walk away with noone stopping her. Why aren't our top politicians protected?!? She should never have been allowed anywhere near him for security purposes. I despair at this country sometimes.

Reminds of when someone superglued his hand to Gordon Brown's.
But at least someone protested. Mandy was allowed ot walk right back into government after he failed to declare that he had been given a 400,000 pound interest free loan, and then he resigned again when it was found out that he tried to get passports for a couple of Indians he did business with. Someone has to protest, the pathetic ineptitude and corruption of the government.
