Hey all, here comes a new series! Nintendo and Capcom have done another amazing collaboration in this game. The playthrough is going to treat Oracle of Ages as a sequel to Seasons, because I'll be using the crossover password at the start. So, if you haven't seen the Seasons Let's Play (or played the game yourself) then you may not understand a line or two that pop up here and there. It won't affect your enjoyment too much though I hope :)

I'm not sure how much I need to explain about the game really, considering it's all in the Seasons thread. It's typical 2D Zelda, where you explore a load of dungeons and eventually find the endgame dungeon where you take on the main villain. Ages tries to shake the formula up a little bit here and there, but not too much.

The fighting is all done in real time. You swing your sword by pressing the sword button and don't have to wait at all.

Here's a link to a pretty good Zelda wiki: http://zeldawiki.org/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Oracle_of_Ages

And here's the opening to the series!
Oh, I thought I may as well add this here in case you want to see what I'm talking about with the sequel/prequel talk here and there:

Hope to see you when we get started tomorrow! :)

Episode 1 - Veran's Tyranny Begins!

http://youtu.be/7abs1Hf8-w4

Hey all, welcome to the start of a new series (kind of?). Oracle of Ages starts off with a great little bit of story and the introduction of plenty of characters that we'll meet throughout.

I've got to say it, I love Nayru's song! It's only basic too, but that doesn't seem to matter to me.

So yeah, most of this episode is just the opening story and cutscenes, but the level 1 ring box is obtained ready for later.

Hope to see you all as we head through the land of Labrynna! :)

Episode 2 - Maku The Damsel Tree

http://youtu.be/X0rT2coSRJY

Welcome to episode 2 folks! This here episode has a lot to do with saving the maku tree throughout the past and present. This involves obtaining the shovel from the Black Tower (or Ambi's Tower) and gaining entrance to our first dungeon! The Maku Path is incredibly simple in the present (a 2 second job in fact), but in the past it's a bit more difficult. It's still a practice dungeon mind you, just like the Hero Cave in Seasons.

Actually, we get a reward for saving her, along with the useful info she gives us, and that is the seed satchel! That's right, it's back along with the ember seeds to set fire to everything (including the Maku Tree?).

This all gains us access to 2 heart pieces and the Yoll Graveyard. The gate key is found within and, with that, the first level: Spirit's Grave!

Wows, with all that done, I'll see you next time when we take on the dungeon! :)

Episode 3 - Within The Grave

http://youtu.be/VQ6nJhQaiHA

Welcome to the Spirit's Grave, all! It's easy enough, but not as easy as you may think for a first dungeon. It introduces a load of the common mechanics found throughout the dungeons of Ages, including the map, compass, miniboss, boss key, boss etc.

The power bracelet is just as handy this time as it was in Seasons. Pick up jars, stones...pumpkins :s

We also make a start on the item trading sidequest by finding the Poe Clock in the graveyard. We'll get on with that one in the next episode.

Thanks for watching :)

P.S. Probably should have mentioned this sooner: the miniboss is called Giant Ghini (just attack a few times with your sword...simples). The boss is called Pumpkinhead (attack a few times, then pick up the pumpkin and attack what leaps out). ;)

Episode 4 - The Twisted Forest Fairies

http://youtu.be/OKs-2a-7LSE

Hey all, here comes episode 4! The main point of this episode is the woods in the west, where the fairies play with us (little shits!) but we also visit baby Green and see how he's doing since the family moved to Labrynna.

Oh wow, I almost forgot to mention something so important! The Harp of Ages, which is like the equivalent of the Rod of Seasons from...Seasons :/ . Love the concept!

We also have a crack at the sword swinging minigame, which is funish. Not something that I would ever get addicted to though. Finally, we trade the poe clock for some stationery. We'll see what we need to do with that next time ;) .

Thanks for watching :)

Episode 5 - Queen Ambi's Scavenger

http://youtu.be/OHe2EA5UQ1o

Hey all, here comes the woods...again! This time though, we're in the past. Everything is so different and we actually can't enter the cave until we do something for Queen Ambi; we need to find something special for her!

Once we find that something special in the woods, we get to see around Ambi's Palace and have the shock of the century 0_0 .

We also trade the stationery for a stink bag, which we won't be able to trade for a while yet. Still it's nice to talk to a detached hand now and again :p

Finally, we make it to level 2 by using a bomb (our reward from Ambi)! Thanks for watching :)

Episode 6 - Why Is The Dungeon Winged?

http://youtu.be/G661piXNzcc

Hey all, here comes an episode entirely based around the 2nd dungeon! This one introduces a new type of puzzle that can only be solved with the new item found within this dungeon.

The miniboss is called Swoop and is pretty easy really. Just charge your sword and stand in one square until he starts flapping really hard and then move and release your swing when he lands. Try harder game! ;)

The boss on the other hand is called Head Thwomp and is more of a pain. The first boss to give us any sort of trouble, in fact. I find it easier to climb the right ladder and throw bombs in on the face just before red...the red face being the one that needs to take the damage. The game tried harder :( .

Thanks for watching folks! :)

Episode 7 - Storm Of The Century

http://youtu.be/uKTGxr_dKTI

Hey all, here comes the trek to dungeon 4! At least...the start of it. Building a raft may seem simple, but when you're having to rely on dithery characters such as Cheval and Rafton, you're gonna have problems.

So! We end up meeting Cheval twice, both when he's alive...and sort of when he's dead. This earns us the zora flippers (allowing us to swim in shallow waters) as well as some unrottable rope. Then there's Rafton who sends us on a quest to find a map; he won't be letting us go otherwise! 'course the map requires us to talk to a well-known freak in the Zelda world: Tingle. The fairy man that everyone hates ha.

We also meet Moosh and Ricky along our journey and help those two out (including finding some gloves and fighting off enemies). We also find ourselves a heart piece along the way! Noice!

See you next time when we see the consequences of the storm...it's not gonna be pretty! ;)

Episode 8 - Crescent Puzzling

http://youtu.be/q1OEqQki1H4

Hey all, here comes the result of the storm! Being stuck on this island is gonna be tough...especially since all of our items have been stolen! It's a pretty huge puzzle to get them all back, but the end result is the 3rd dungeon!

We also swap our stink bag for tasty meat...more on that later ;)

Thanks so much for watching! :)

Episode 9 - Our Special Pea Shooter

http://youtu.be/b45yUvCj7zs

Here comes the 3rd dungeon, peoples! This place has a unique aspect to it, where you have the rotating floor introduced. Now I know we had those in Seasons, but this time the floor is gonna switch floors once you smash the four crystals spread around the one floor. Once the rotating floor drops, you'll need to figure it all out again; which direction leads to which room etc.

The new inventory item is so fun. It's sorta similar to the seed slingshot in Seasons, but this time the seeds bounce off walls and that makes it pretty unique. Seed shooting! Ha.

The miniboss (Subterror) is easy enough. Just grab your shovel and dig where his mound is. Don't ask why it took so long in this episode...just don't ask :/

As for the boss (Shadow Hag), you'll need to bounce the seeds off the walls while looking away from her. Only when she fully appears too; not when she is a shadow on the floor.

Thanks for watching folks! :)

Episode 10 - Donkey Kong Returns!

http://youtu.be/IA4I4X5hXXE

Hey there folks, it's time to get back to the mainlands using Dimitri! Such a short journey with this time around...and we may never see him again either. He just waddles off as if he doesn't care :'(

We go through two item trading parts too, swapping the tasty meat for a dog mask for a dumbbell.

Finally, we meet Ricky again (lost again...) and help him back to safety. In return, we build a bridge to Symmetry City.

Thanks for watching! See you next time when we get to explore the city and check out the surrounding area...the gimmick is gonna get more interesting folks! :D

Episode 11 - Fixing My Nuts

http://youtu.be/7NaECAs1uiU

Hey all, here comes the final leg towards finding dungeon 4! Symmetry City is an interesting place. Is there a man in the left house? Then there's a man in the right house. Is there a time portal on the left? Then there's a time portal on the right. Is there a tuni nut in the very center, making easy symmetry? Well...no. That's our problem. We need to take the nut and get it fixed at restoration wall! To get there, we need to collect a new song (Currents Tune), which takes us to the present wherever we are. There's no need for a time portal or anything! Noice.

Anyways, the restoration wall is at the end of a longish time puzzle and includes such a fun minigame ha. Easy enough too.

We also find a heart piece and trade the dumbbell for a cheesy mustache for a funny joke for a touching book for a magic oar for a sea ukelele (bloody hell!). We also upgrade the bomb bag so we can carry 30 bombs  .

Thanks for watching folks! See you next time when we play through dungeon 4! :)

Episode 12 - A Skull-Shaped Eyesoar

http://youtu.be/kuNcEBNMi_M

Here comes level 4 folks! The Skull Dungeon isn't too bad...it's all pretty linear and it has loads of lava too, which I love. Make it a bit more unique, you know? And that's a running theme within the rest of the dungeons now; they all have unique aspects.

The inventory item is something that has been in most Zelda games, but there's a bit of a twist this time around...

As for the miniboss (Armos Warrior), do you remember the Armos from back in Link to the Past? Where you had to shoot a bunch of them with arrows? Well this time we don't have a bow and arrow, so it's all a matter of sticking close to him so that the separate giant sword flies into him. Once the shield is gone, just slash away with your own sword ;).

Then there's the boss of the volcano: Eyesoar. He's simple enough. Use your new item on the big eye and slash away right after. Repeat.

See you next time when we head towards dungeon 5! Thanks for watching :)

Episode 13 - Saving The Elderly

http://youtu.be/wIuxBrS6HUk

Hey all, here comes our journey towards level 5! It'll all be done in this episode and it mainly involves climbing the gorons' mountain. Saving the goron elder, finding a bomb flower, finding the pegasus seeds, taking on King Moblin again...all taken care of ;).

Oh, we also finish off the item trading sequence (sea ukelele - broken sword - noble sword). That's about it for now, so thanks for watching folks! :)

Episode 14 - Our Crowning Moment

http://youtu.be/7Uvmun6RKyU

Hey all, here's a slightly longer episode that I was going to split into two but then decided against it so that the whole dungeon could be done in a single episode. The Crown Dungeon has the fiddly block orbs to play about with, but there's a central room that you can always use as a "base" to return to, so you shouldn't get too lost.

The inventory item this time around is unique...I think it was only in one other Zelda game?

The miniboss (Smasher) just requires you to pick up the ball and throw it at the boss. Be quick though, or it'll disappear for the boss to get it.

Then there's the proper boss, Smog. Just use the new item to put the small enemies together and then attack away! It can be fiddly, but remember there's a reset button in the top left corner of the room and you'll be fine...just have some patience ha.

Thanks for watching folks! I'll see you next time when we make our way to dungeon 6!

Episode 15 - Minigame Ridge!

http://youtu.be/28Kb7V8jPmc

Ooooook folks, this is a pretty packed episode. Loads of minigames, loads of mandatory item trading and loads of...dancing? If you saw the dancing in Seasons, then you'll sort of know what's coming, although it's pretty different.

From the lava juice, to the rock brisket, to the goron vase, to the goronade, to the brotherhood emblem, there's so much item collecting to do! The minigames to get them are pretty tough too. Harder than they seem, they are!

We also grab a boomerang, which I never knew you could even get in Ages...t'was a shock ha!

Most importantly, we find the two dungeon keys (mermaid keys) as well as dungeon 6! Thanks for watching! Hope to see you next time when we head in :)

P.S. Damn that goron is graceful!

Ok, two episodes today folks, just to get the 6th dungeon done in one go.

-----------------------------------------------------

Episode 16 - Link's A Mermaid?

http://youtu.be/vvO_7Ntrd40

Hey all, here comes the Mermaid's Cave! The very interesting gimmick for this dungeon is that there are two of them! One in the past and one in the present. When you blow up a wall in the past, it'll blow up in the present etc. However, keys do not carry over between dungeons, nor do maps or compasses.

During our time through the dungeons this time, we find the boss key and defeat the miniboss in order to get the mermaid suit! This will allow us to swim in the dark blue waters (as well as the sea) and dive too.

Speaking of the miniboss, he's called Vire and some of you will remember him from Seasons. He's exactly the same this time around: just charge your sword and swing when he gets really close. Patience, fellow people ;)

-----------------------------------------------------

Episode 17 - Octogon Attacks!

http://youtu.be/nMtSntjB52o

Ok, so here's the last of the Mermaid's Cave folks! The new concept of swimming underwater is shown (it's different now that we have the mermaid suit) and there are a few tricky puzzles to solve.

Otherwise, we take on Octogon, the boss! He's toughish, but just remember:

- Rebound seeds off the wall to hit behind him.
- Shoot the seeds at him directly when he faces you.
- Put your sword to the A button and dive when he goes underwater. Swing Away, regardless of your health.

Thanks for watching all! Hope to see you next time when we find our way to dungeon 7! :)

Episode 18 - When The Guard's Away...

http://youtu.be/fgUuqSfryxI

Off we go to Ambi's Palace! The Queen needs rescuing, you see, along with Nayru. While the guards are away, it's for us to solve the puzzle in the garden and make our way to the Queen's room.

Boss time! Veran (Nayru's form): Shoot her with a mystery seed, then switch hook her, then charge your sword for a hit :). Easy enough. You can only do this when she's shooting you though.

Otherwise, we gain the Tune of Time. This allows us to go between present and past wherever we are; no need for symbols on the floor or anything. Completely restriction free!

We finally make it to the Zora Village! Thanks for watching! See you when we make it the rest of the way to dungeon 7 :)

Episode 19 - Entering Jabu Jabu

http://youtu.be/PzfcPnhdXBo

Hey all, here comes the rest of the journey towards dungeon 7! Within the video, we save King Zora (Ruto?), solve the mysteries of Eyeglass Library, cleanse the sea of poison, save the fairy and enter Jabu Jabu's Belly! Blimey :s

It's not the easiest area in the game, but we're coming up to the end soon so it makes sense.

I love the music in Zora Village...I hope you do too! It's pretty different from the music in the rest of the game. Very calming :)

Thanks for watching folks! Get ready for quite possibly the toughest dungeon in the game next episode. It'll be...interesting :D

Episode 20 - Jabu's Inners

http://youtu.be/jePT5wZthn8

Hey all, here comes the start of what is, quite possibly, the toughest dungeon of Oracle of Ages (and one of the toughest of any Zelda game, I think). What makes it tough? The water levels! Just like in Ocarina of Time, you're gonna be dealing with this water dungeon by raising and lowering the water levels. Maybe the water goes out through the blow hole? Wishful thinking ha!

The miniboss is pretty easy. You can defeat the angler fish by charging your sword and jumping towards the blob on the end of his head area (and releasing at the top of your jump). The better way may be to use scent seeds. That's what the bubbles give you when you pop them, anyway.

As for the inventory item in this dungeon, it's gonna be an improvement over the switch hook. More distance, is all. Just like with the water temple in Ocarina of Time once again! They really nabbed a lot of ideas from that, didn't they? :D

Thanks for watching all! We'll finish off this dungeon in the next episode ;)

Episode 21 - Plasmerine's Bipolar Disorder

http://youtu.be/LlCRNHBghYc

Hello all, here comes the last of Jabu Jabu! Finding the boss key requires loads of little keys and finding those isn't as easy as it sounds :/ . We'll be seeing past areas that are now like new (flooded) as well as brand new areas of the dungeon.

The boss, Plasmerine, is pretty easy really. Just wait until it shoots, and then use the long switch on him straight away. Make sure you aren't too far away or too close to him.

Thanks for watching all! We'll be making it to dungeon 8 next time...which is gonna be just as complicated as this dungeon, I'm sure :s

P.S. Looks like Veran's Tower is now complete...
