I wasn't sure where to put this topic...

Okay so here is my situation. My dad is wanting to buy a laptop for his business, but he told me that he would buy me a new one and take mine instead, if I did research on them and worked for him for the rest of the summer. I wasn't about to pass that up. (He's so use to my laptop that he doesn't want to go through the period of time for figuring everything out on a new one.) So I started doing my research on them.

I really need a laptop because of college. I can't exactly lug a desktop around campus with me.... (or can I?) lol Just kidding I can't do that. ;)

Macbooks I have found are really the best for what I am getting into, which is Graphic Designing, but at the moment I honestly cannot afford to replace all of the programs that I have on my vista. So I really see no need of getting a Mac right now.

What I am looking for is something that can support a wide variety of Adobe products. Photoshop CS4, Flash, Illustrator, In Design and Premier. I know that I need a lot of processing speed.

Honestly I started this thread to see what everyone here thinks. What are some great brands/laptops (not including mac's) that would be good to get, for a reasonable price?

But Macs rule the universe! T_T
I hate to say it, but a Vista computer might be best for you. I HATE mine with a burning passion exported from the seventh circle of HELL, but it might be good. Mainly because as long as you don't clog it up with crap (like I did :wacky:) and don't want any games on it, it's pretty damn fast.

I have a Toshiba Laptop.. Satellite M300 says the back.

Other than that a Mac would really be best.

Here is an article that very deeply goes through the pros and cons of the Mac vs PC debate. If you want my opinion I say get a PC, from my experience Mac's you have to jump through alot of hoops to get the right computer you want(Memory/programs you want on it). Plus I think Mac owners are arrogant and self centered.

Ermmmm, Il move this to computing and technology I think

If you're running all of that software on your current laptop just get another one with similar specs. I don't want to come across as anti-mac (though I am :jtc:) unless what you're after is an over-priced, shiny piece of shit, stay away from them, you don't really get much hardware for your cash when it comes to macs.

If you're not running any of that software on your current laptop then look at the program with the highest recommended specifications and go with that. It does depend on your price range though.

2.0GHz dual core with 3GB RAM is probably about the standard now I'd say (around £450 - £500, whatever that is in your currency); be suspicious of any retailer that's offering over 3GB of RAM unless they state the machine ships with a 64bit OS (which in most cases, it doesn't) 'cause 32bit Windows is a bit of a retard and can only address around 3GB of memory.

Just out of curiosity, how much are you willing to spend? Obviously not the big bucks or you'd go with the nice, white, shiny fagmac.

I can't get a mac really... I don't want one. And I have no problems with PC's. The only thing that I am currently running on this laptop is photoshop. The others will install but it slows way down.

This is what I currently have: Running Windows Vista Ultimate, 2GB RAM, Intel Core duo processor, 1.66 GHz of processing speed.

As for price not too expensive. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $1300, but it can vary.

Macs are for elitist hipster losers. Go with PC.

You can pretty much double your laptop computer power if you are willing to spend $1300. Stay away from Dells. Toshiba is awesome.

I wouldn't like to suggest Dell, but I'll do it anyway.

Judging by the software you said you'll be using Premier's gonna be the most processor hungry. That laptop there probably won't cut it when it comes to video editing but you can't expect too much...it's only a laptop etc etc.

Adobe reckon for HDV vidya editing you're gonna need a 3.4GHz processor; if Premier really is that important I suggest you just carry a desktop around on your back.

PS: if you're not working in US dollars then I don't have a fucking clue.

:jtc:

Hipster losers? lol I'll have to tell my roommate that.

Wow I honestly didn't even consider a dell. Just never clicked considering all the problems one of my friends has had with theirs. I'll have to look into 'em though.

And I am working in US dollars.

I was just wondering what some good brands were thanks. ^_^
