Kingdom Hearts VS Kingdom Hearts II

KH1. I'm glad it didn't have the 12 day thing at the beginning like 2 did. >.< Sora was nice and developed in that world, and Roxas felt kinda rushed to me. I hated some of the abilities in KH2. It was hard to figure them out when I went back to beat some missions, 'casue they got in the way. I could never remember which ones I needed after I equipped them. XD

And yah can add a poll to this topic if you want.

I'll tell you what: instead of closing this thread, as it is one of many that have been created, to ask the same question, I'm going to 'sticky' this thread in hopes of preventing another one from springing up in the near future. I'll also edit the title of the thread, so people can, at a glance, see what the thread will be about and whether or not they want to waste time by investigating.

I prefer KH1 over KH2. KH2 had better worlds but KH1 was much longer and I did hate that beginning bit on KH2 as Roxas while i loved the beginning of KH1.

KH2> KH1 lol so true because of the Forms :D but the makers i think got a little lazy on it as to making Sephiroth beatable at such a low level >.<

OMG their both so good........I world have to say Kingdom heart 2 becuse you get to heir more of the people voic that you don't here in KH 1 and you get to hold 2 keyblads

i think kh2 was well easier i just button bashed my way thru the whole game but the fighting sequences were well better in kh2 than kh1 but that was its ultimate downfall for me and roxas was just dropped into the equation right at the start and was kinda a pain in the backside but kh2 was very good value for money i still prefer kh1 for the aggetation i get playing some of the really hard bits in it lol so overall kh2 good improvement but my heart lies with number one all the way

Kingdom Hearts II was better designed systemwise, but the first one definitely had a stronger story. Sora's still cute, though!

I much prefer KH2 over KH1, mainly because of the battle system, the drive forms and the reaction commands. Sora's new look, a voice actor for Cid and lots more appearences from King Mickey are also why i like it more. However, like most people i hated the beginning of the game with Roxas. I rushed through that part of the game because i really wanted to see what happened to Sora and start playing as him again.

i thought they were both pretty good but KH1 grabs the honours. I thought the game was a bit harder and just seemed to flow better, i found that i wanted to keep playing it more than KH2.
KH2 seemed to jump from world to world more often and didnt really flow, i really liked the forms but it made it too easy and i beat the game at a pretty low level.
but both awesome games. :)

Hands down

KH1 is the better of the two hands down. Not only was it more challenging the storyline was better. The characters personas seemed slightly forced in thge second one.

ALso I hated the whole Riku looking like Ansem thing i screamed in sheer horror at the thought of my Riku looking like that orange eyed, too much fake tan, white haired wierdo heartless.

Although KH2 did have it's key good points such as Rikus hot older form and Mr.Mansex...i mean Xemnas....(rearrange the letters and you'll get the joke)....THe whole orginization 13 thing was pretty sweet and i had a soft spot for namine even though i seriously dislike Kairi.

But all in all the first one is always better than the sequel no matter how badly we try and argue it.

Kingdom Hearts II

In my book, Kingdom Hearts II wins, due to its superior plot. (And maybe a little bit due to the fact that the camera doesn't give me a headache anymore)

Here's my theory on the difference between the games:

I believe that Disney has considerably more weight in world economics, therefore had more weight in deciding what to do with Kingdom Hearts.

As a pilot project, I'm sure that Disney was a bit scared about the outcome of the game. It was definitely a crack concept. Therefore, Disney decided to play it safe and push lots of Disney values into the first game.

The first game's premise deals with Sora trying to reunite with his friends, and as he goes through the Disney worlds, he discovers such things as the meaning of friendship and the triumph of light over dark.

Kingdom Hearts focuses very heavily on very broad themes often explored by Disney: friendship, light vs. dark, and love. Very bread-and-butter concepts, but ones that Disney is surely a master of. Nearly every subplot can be resolved with a tagline from one of these three themes.

The final battle culminates with Sora proclaiming that Kingdom Hearts is light.

Now to contrast this with the second game.

I believe that with the success gained from the first game, Disney decided it would loosen the ropes a bit and make room for experimentation. Note that the second starts to add themes that seem popular in Final Fantasy works: identity crises and ambiguousness of light and dark.

The second game begins with a movie recapping the first game and COM, as well as parallel imagery casting Roxas in the place of Sora. This confusion of who this character is, as well as the rest of the prologue, introduces the first new theme of identity crisis. Players get a definite taste of this in COM, but it culminates in KHII with the emergence of Roxas, as well as a fuller explanation of the Nobodies (people in search of their hearts, i.e. trying to fulfill their existence, i.e. trying to find their identities).

In the original game, the sole enemy was the Heartless creating a classic case of dark vs. light. However in Kingdom Hearts II, the introduction of the Nobodies creates a third dynamic - beings who linger between both worlds. The clear definitions in Kingdom Hearts are blurred in the sequel. The Nobodies are ruthless, but the fact that they quest to find wholeness in their hearts gives them a very poignant edge that can't be found within the bestial nature of the Heartless.

A key contrast - in the first game, Sora insists that KH is light. He is by all means a hero of the light. However, in the sequel, KH's ambiguous nature is highlighted in the fact that the Nobodies are harnessing it for their gains - and yet it also aids Sora when he is in need. And at the beach in the dark world, Sora shows a depth of character not shown in the first game by proclaiming that he would be content to stay in the realm of dark, so long as the realm of light was safe.

Both games are amazing. But KHII takes the cake.

I enoyed KH1 better as it was all new at the time. KH2 was great but most of the features had been shown in KH1.

True...

I enoyed KH1 better as it was all new at the time. KH2 was great but most of the features had been shown in KH1.

But really, you couldn't have possibly made a sequel that's utterly different from the original, unless you wanted to inspire the rage of the fanbase.

I prefer to think that KHII had pretty much everything good KHI had (battle system, characters, plot), but all of it was updated and made better.

I liked KH2 much better. I thought the story was just as strong and there were better features such as forms, more moves and better worlds

That's a toughy hmm.....
