I wanted to ask before I bought the game if my PS2 console ( bought here in America) would run a Japanese game ( KH2 FM ) and if not how do I know the difference between what ps2 system can run both American and Japanese games and what can not?

With the proper modifications, it's possible, but they can seriously fuck up your PS2 if you get it wrong. But for what a PS2's worth, you wouldn't be losing much.
But Japanese games are a different region format to American.

Yeah, just get the right modifications to it and it will run fine. I remember having an American PS1 console a long time ago and I attempted to run an original on it (you know, the ones with the black underside) and it crashed majorly. Died in a week. -.-

So yeah, mod it up, make sure you get the right one, and enjoy.

lol, what kind of modifications? and where can I go to get them?

o yah and can I use my current ps2 branded memory card?

You could always use a Slide Card. I've used it for a while, and my PS2 is working perfectly. And yes, you can use your current memory card.

There is a chip you can buy that you can install in your PS2 that can play Japanese game. Try looking for it on ebay. I wish the PS2 had a freeloader.

Just buy swap magic. Costs less than chipping, doesn't fuck up your ps2, doesn't void your guarantee and is good with cookies.
