J.R.R. Tolkein

well kinda...he is the one of the best fantasy authors out there...eventhough i enjoyed his books very much not everyone feels the same...

A genuine genius of his time. Probably will remain so for many years to come, for I fail to see his books dying with time. He's a personal favourite of mine to be honest, and always will be. I read his books once a year. Currently half way through the Silmarilion. Great book.

The only problem I have is with the chapter in the Two Towers, where he doesn't stop talking about the scenery which Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas behold. And the conversation between them and Éomer. It's just... a smidge too long.

But my God, I loved these books. And although the films missed out some interesting parts, I'd say they were a nice tribute to the books. I would love to have seen the real ending of the Return of the King though; that pissed me off to no end. Seeing Saruman's demise ONLY on the extended edition AND at the very start was appalling. Christopher Lee agrees. <3

i have really enjoy his books although i haven't read all of them. but i have read the lord of the rings and the hobbit, i always loved the books, but really have only read them once.

he goes into so much depth in his writings, it is rather amazing. he basically made up his own language (elvish) and his stories connect so well that you almost feel like you are reading a history eventhough it is a fantasy.

good author.

the movies went well because they we trying to appeal to everyone and not just tolkien fans. sadly, they had to make some changes

He is one of the best fantasy autors, but not the best of all time IMO. LOTRs took awhile for me to get through and Im about 20 odd pages into the Hobbit.

Good books but not the best of all time in any way, shape or fashion today. I've always gotten sort of bored with his books really quickly since he has this habit of adding huge amounts of detail which I don't mind but it really slows down the pace of the novel too much which spoils it for me, probably something back in the times of the original releases was normal but it puts me off these days.
