Hey everyone.

I got this given today, My friend who give me it said it's a rare promotion disc but I'm not sure.

The ring on the disc on the read side does say Final Fantasy X-2
The disc is also a gold kinda tone to it and looks quite good.

Heres some pics of the box and disc.
I sadly can't get a clear pic of the writing on read side.

Anyone got any ideas?

Looks like you probably got some limited edition cover art, or maybe a different regions cover art. Maybe it is a rare promotional case like your friend said. If it is a fake whats the problem, it was given to you anyway.

EDIT: i had a little Google search and can tell you that there are at least 3 different cover arts for this game. A Kingdom hearts style one, the one with the 3 girls faces, a anime style character portrait of the leads. I did find the picture from your cover art but only as a preview page from a 2004/2005 FF calendar, so maybe it is limited edition OR you have a fan made cover in which case it looks pretty awesome, seems real and is a one of a kind game box.. so its win-win really buddy

Edit again...- i just noticed the "For home use only" this may be a promotional cover that wasn't released to the public. My friend gets a lot of games like that working at GAME..Different cover art with HOME USE ONLY ect messages on it.

Not a problem just curious about it.
As I don;t have a NTSC Machine yet I can't try it.

All the X-2's I've seen have a basic white cover or a picture of Y.R.P never seen one like this before.

I haven't seen many game promos, but I used to review CD's for an internet 'zine and through that got tons of promos from lots of different. The one thing they all had in common though, was that they all clearly stated that they were for promotional use only.

Another thing is the lack of the black Playstation 2/Sony border on the cover. I've never seen a PS2 game without it. Playstation 2 didn't become an open platform until late 2008, and I'm 110% sure that even if some PS2 games have been released without the border, it didn't happen before that time.

It's probably a counterfeit.

Considering it doesn't say "Square" anywhere on the thing, I have suspicions about it being a promotional disc. Usually when you promote, you promote your company as well, not just a random game.

Hmm, Looking at my FFX and FFXI disks neither of them have the games name on the read side of the disk. So that shouldn't be a problem, tho thinking about it some of my mums DVD R's have a golden tint to the underside. I dont recall ever exept for them copy disks seeing disks with gold tints to them, especially not a game, i know ps2's have blue and black bottomed games but not gold

I know all these problems everyone including myself have mentioned but mabie it is some kind of unreleased cover of some kind. I mean, why would someone go to THAT much trouble to make a game if it didnt work anyway.

Well, judging from the fact that there are grammatical errors and spelling mistakes on the back, I'd say it's fake. The box itself looks more like a DVD case - the disc holder isn't a 'pushy pop' one. I can also see a 'DVD GAME' icon which doesn't exist. I can also see an NTSC UC icon on the box - there's always a forward slash between the U and C. You gotta look for these little things when judging counterfeit games from real ones.

The whole design of it looks fake, if it were a promo, which I'm almost sure it's not, they probably would put little effort into the design at all and keep it like our European covers with just the logo. There are several flaws to it.

Front Cover
- The front cover in general looks quite blatant someone just slapped the logo on a released image.
- The "T" rating should be on the bottom left like all Final Fantasy Covers.
- The "Square Enix" logo is missing, even as a promo I'm sure that'd be on.
- Also, the DVD logo, wtf is a "DVD GAME"? :wacky:

Back Cover
- The first thing that sticks out is that, for some reason, it's in both Japanese and English, why?
- Also contains spelling and punctuation mistakes.
- Linked to above. I've checked the blurb and it's the same with no errors which says to me that whoever made the cover personally typed the blurb out in Photoshop, actually the whole thing, look at the 2nd from bottom line, "Metal confusion" lawl.

Disk
- Though it looks more realistic than the other two part, it's again missing the SE logo.
- Don't NTSC disks have a web address on them like SE's official website?
- I don't know if it's the lighting but the rating/NTSC/DVD thing looks a funny colour.
- Also, don't SE have the Sony logo on their PS2 games at least?
- There's also no copyright on the disk.
- No sound logo "Dolby Digital" etc
- Also, don't PS2 games have "Playstation 2" on the bottom of the disks?

There's probably a lot more that could be pointed out, but everything pretty much leads toward it being fake.

They may not have, they could have just as easily taken it off the internet and printed it.

I agree. It doesn't say "Square Enix" on the box or the disc and it's missing a rating sign on the bottom of the box, so I say it's a fake.

Ah well.
I have someone whos bought it off me for £80.00 now so all is well, asked my friend who give me it if he wanted half but he said he wasn't fussed since the game is of no interest to him anyway.

Haha, I noticed that too, great spelling mistakes. Lots of pirated DVD boxes from China looks legit, but they always mess up with their English.

But hey, if the game runs with no flaws, then big deal right?

You sold that to dumbass, grats on the £80 though.

And *wave* from Leeds!

My friend had a copy of The Bouncer that said DVD Game in the top right corner...I assumed it was NTSC and we don't get that here in South Africa (we got PAL). We've never been able to play the thing, even trying to crack it on a PC. She bought it for twenty bucks or something at the second-hand shop (that's DIRT cheap here, games are usually 500-600 rand). So I don't know if that was fake too or not...now that you mention there are no such things as DVD Game I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I'm more impressed on how you managed to get £80.00 for it, let alone if it was fake or not. :wacky: Collector people are weird, they pay over the top prices for something you could get it the shop for £15. It's not as if he even got free stuff either, just the game with a different cover. :wacky:
