edit:after reading your post i saw that you made my argument for me about the dates because if it was that year I'm pretty sure proconsul is not a one year position and if it was the year before then all the better
Um, Quiri got appointed AFTER the demise of Herod. It being a multi-year position doesn't help.
No, the preconsul isn't exactly the same as a governor, or rather, governor's aren't' all Proconsuls.-Snip-
now correct me if I'm wrong but by definition a proconsul would be both governor and procurator because as proconsul he would preside over commerce and therefore taxes
The thing is, though, that Quir wasn't a proconsul. In 12 BCE he was simply a consul, and not of Syria, and when he was appointed to Syria, it was as Legate, a military role, and was later governor, but not Procunsul, and not as procurator. Furthermore, even if he were, the census he did call happened in 6 CE, 10 years after the death of Herod. There was no Quirinian census during Herod's reign, so Luke must be mistaken.
edit: just to remind you in Daniel 9 it says
25 Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command
To restore and build Jerusalem
Until Messiah the Prince,
There shall be seven weeks(meaning years if translated properly)
And even assuming that it referred to the 2nd temple, and not the Jerusalem as a whole, that pegs the date as 12BCE, when Quirinus was in Crete, and long before the census.
However, it says 'from the going forth' meaning when it starts, and says Jerusalem itself, which was rebuilt centuries beforehand.
Asuka said:The literal meaning of the word 'circle' here when translated from Hebrew is circle or sphere. And this was 2,700 years before there was a common idea that the world wasn't flat. This is one of over 2,000 prophecies in the Bible. So to say is it reliable, yes it is.
Oh, how did miss this? 1- Chwub is circle yes, but is not sphere. There is a distinct word for sphere. 2- The authorship of the bible does not predate the knowledge of the round earth, which was not only guessed at, but the size of which was rather well calculated given all the calculator had to go on was the angles of shadows. That the earth was hardly unknown at the time of its writing.
Same for most of the other supposed biblical foreknowledges.
Atma- simply denying reality and asserting another does not make reality go away. It doesn't work in FF7, and it most certainly doesn't work with the real world.
