Is anyone happy about the turn-based system being replaced?

Emphasize pls.
By the time you get her, you could already have everything you need to finish the game. o_O

You're not that much of a higher level to not be able to have her in your party, and this is all before the tomb of raithwall during the deserts, which for me is the point in the game where you have to decide which characters you want to have as your "main" Three. I didn't use Penelo because i wanted one female only and Ashe seemed like the obvious choice. But at the time she was only a couple of levels behind Balthier.

FFXII's Battle System is poor I hate it, this game would have been a definate 10/10 if there was no License Grid thing and if it had a Battle System like KH & KH2

You have to be joking, one of the most shallow battle systems ever. KH is an Action game for kids anyway. Even though i liked KHII, the button mashing was horrendous.

I agree. The new system is better than previous battle systems. It makes the environments more realistic and disverse, enemies more numerous, and the difficulty level a little more, well, diffcult than earlier FF games. I especially like the way summons are now (especially the ability to heal them). I congradulate Square Enix on a job well done!

I remember...but...she was the last person to join, and I couldn't be arsed to level her up to the point where the rest of my characters were.

It's just that...if you don't have your characters with you at all times, you almost *never* see any interaction with the characters who aren't immediately in your party.

I had Vaan, Ashe, and Balthier in my group all the time, and I neeeeever saw any itneraction with Penelo, Fran, or Basch...

There's never any point in the game when you're required to have a specific member with you...
save for when you meet the Vieras.
..which means that you could have one character at level 13 throughout the entire game. =x

i like it for a change, the turn based battle system was getting incredibly easy to master for me, and the random incounters almost drove me insane, so thats a plus. and i definitly agree.....i loved the turn based system but change is a necessary evil and i really enjoy the new battle system. (thus far)

I think it's a nice change of pace. I like the old way, but it was time for a change for me. I enjoyed being able to avoid enemies, or randomly charging them. It took some time to get used to, but I'm glad the change was made.

With the system for FF12, they took A LOT from FF11 online, I love FFXI so naturally I find myself doing the same things in FFXII to avoid mobs and such.

i am happy about the turn based system being replaced as it made the game more realistic and because i like different and this was different

I think after Advent Children and the fights in that Square wanted to go with a more action battle system, especially since everyone went on and on about the fights in AC which makes me worry what they are going to do with XIII since i read somewhere that the fighting is gonna be alot like AC.

I liked the battle system much better than the turn based. It was fun where as the turn based got boring, did anyone else live in fear of the smashed screen as they travelled the land. Anyway, it was a very action like system that still had rpg ellements.

Exactly, that's what I loved most about it. It was the fact that it was more fluent and seamless, like a real-time battle system (Kingdom Hearts), but also combined that system with a turn-based system; making a hybrid of the two. You get the best of both worlds and it makes for a beter battle system. You're not aimlessly hacking and slashing, but you're not taking turns and fighting like stiff robots also. I did love turn-based by the way, X was great, but I just love this so much more and it would be a blow to go back to the old systems for future FF games (except, maybe if they do remakes, maybe).

I'm probably not the first person to say this. If I am, you should all be ashamed! :P

But technically, the turn-based system is still there. Its just a different battle layout so it makes you think the game is entirely different... think about it... whats changed? You do an attack, the enemy follows his soon after yours. Wait mode is there when you open the menu (just like in the previous games), active mode keeps the battle going even with the menu open (just like in the previous games).

No i didnt like it one bit .it felt like i was playing a glammed up Summoner game, the combat felt restrictive, and boring. I prefur to have it ether the old fashion way or like Star ocean 3s , theres more freedom in the combat, rather than run round while atb fills up then go in attack and repeat. This really made me feel that ffXII was the let down of the whole series combatwise anyways.

I liked it, it added a bt of "intensity" to battles... it kinda felt like , for me, that the battle was more fast paced. Better than waiting for one character to do something and taking turns.

LOL. How did it feel restrictive hm?

It felt restrictive since you end up just doing the same attack over and over again. and if that didnt work spam some magic. Most of the time was spent waiting for atb to load up, this is spent running round the enemy or away from it. Unless your fighting a big enemy victory like this felt hollow. The system geneally felt alittle MP heavy. Quickenings felt pointless and a cheap victory, with the quicken chains relied on luck more than skill.
The game felt like summoner ,from years back, except it has better graphics and quickings.
The battles just felt too hollow and took too much energy for the LV of satisfaction you get at the end of the battle.
Generally i think that this was a step forward for Square enix for more freedom and skills required in battles.

well IMO, looking at FFX, i like this system because it removes the random battles... and if you cant win a fight, just run, no eed to choose from the menu to flee...

I never recognized the FF games by its battle system, I recognized them for the fantastic stories and the nicely put fantasy world.
So if you're a true FF fan, the battle system wont make you think worse about the game..

I'm really looking forward to see how it works as well, always nice with a little change here and there, or else you would be telling the same story over and over again.
