How do I know which generation Ipod touch i have?

It has the volume manipulator thing on the side of it.

2nd or 3rd gen?

I think they're physically identical.

According to a site I found, these are the main differences. :ohshit:

1. They differ in terms of processor speeds. The 2G version only has 533MHz compared to 800MHz of 3G. This means that if you want to play games or stream videos most of the time, you go for iPod Touch 3G.

2. RAM also increased in iPod Touch 3G to twofold from 128MB.

3. iPod Touch 2G does not have the 64GB storage capacity. The 3G version, on the other hand, does not have 16GB.

4. iPod Touch 2G only has the built-in Bluetooth chip, but it is not capable of connecting wirelessly through Bluetooth technology.

5. The 32 and 64GB models of iPod Touch 3G offer voice control and voiceover screen reader. These features are not found in the 8GB model.

You should be able to view the model number in the settings.

If you have a 2G iPod, the settings should say "A1288".
