Premise

Once again, Ivalice was in a state of war, the likes of which had not been seen since before the founding of the Galtean Alliance. The heir to the throne of Nabradia, Veltan Elygas, requested the aid of Rozarria to drive out the forces that opposed him. Fearing an invasion of the Valendian continent by its sworn enemy, Rozarria, would follow once the Civil War in Nabradia had been resolved, Archadia immediately exerted political pressure on the small kingdom, backing the other heir to the throne, Renais Elgyas. Yet neither Rozarria nor the new King of Nabradia acceded to their demands, and the Emperor of Archadia was compelled to use force. Yet for all her military might, Archadia was unable to pierce the defences of Nabradia; support from Rozarria enabled them to hold, and threatened for a time to drive Archadia back, drastically reducing her territories. Superior tactics help against superior numbers, and many were the lives that the Archadian Empire lost in attempting to force capitulation.

It was then that the might of the Archadian Judges was unleashed upon Nabradia. Calling forth the Espers, those who had been bound to the Glyph of the Beast by the Gods themselves, and who had not set foot upon Ivalice since the Age of the Gods, they laid waste to the city within a single night, bringing forth Mist and transforming the once prosperous nation into a barren wasteland for all eternity; a stark reminder to all those who would seek to oppose the might of Archadia. Yet the Kingdom of Dalmasca also stood in opposition; by the blood ties of the Dynast King of old, Dalmasca and Nabradia stood together against the might of the Archadian Empire at Nalbina Fortress.

No quarter was given, and the bloodlines of both House Nabradia and House Dalmasca were lost in the final conflict, prompting those who remained to accept Archadia’s terms of surrender. Rozarria, badly scarred by her skirmish with Archadia, was forced to retreat, and it was with great pride that the Emperor of Archadia declared himself to be the new Dynast King, consolidating the lands won in conquest whilst simultaneously relieving himself of the political pressure that he had been placed under for the campaign which, until that point, had been a disaster. But with the might of the Scions at his command, could there be any doubt he was Ivalice’s new Dynast King; Raithwall reborn? Whilst those most holy relics wielded by the Dynast King, the Nethicite, eluded his grasp still, it was but a mere technicality in the face of the power that he did wield.

With the destruction of Nabradia and annexation of Dalmasca, the sovereign state of Archadia was left unopposed, and continued to consolidate her territories, encountering only small pockets of resistance which were easily crushed by her Judges. Rozarrian borders were slowly pushed back, and rumours of negotiations for peace treaties were ripe amongst the people; it was only a matter time before the Dynast King of Archadia became the Dynast King of Ivalice in truth. With House Dalmasca destroyed, Archadia dispatched a consul to rule the once free state in the year 706 Old Valendian, marking their arrival in Rabanastre with a festival the likes of which none had ever seen. Indeed, it proved to be a festival the likes of which the people would never see again, marking the end of one Age and the beginning of another, which later came to be known with the passage of time as the Age of the Scions.

Timeline

Note: All dates are in Old Valendian. Subject to additions as the RP progresses.

1

  • Raithwall succeeds in unifying Ivalice; forms the Galtean Alliance and becomes the first Dynast King.

44

  • Raithwall dies of unknown causes, passing the Dawn Shard to the first son of his house, the Dusk Shard to the house of Dalmasca, and the Midlight Shard to the House of Nabradia.

324

  • The sovereign Republic of Archades is formed.

392

  • House of Raithwall severed. Dawn Shard presumably sealed within Raithwall’s Tomb, although this remains to be confirmed. The Esper who served him in life, Belias, set to watch over his tomb.

394

  • The Galtean Alliance is broken, as the royal houses of Dalmasca and Nabradia, along with the Skycity of Bhujerba and the Republic of Archades, all declare independence.

486

  • The first of the Archadian Emperors is crowned; Archadia becomes an Empire.

504

  • The former Dynasty in Rozarria comes to an end as the last of the bloodline dies, resulting in the new Rozarrian Empire, which rapidly develops as a militaristic state to rival that of Archadia.

552

  • First major battle between Archadia and Rozarria, resulting in a Rozarrian victory. Archadian borders are pushed back, yet Rozarrian advance is halted by the combined forces of Dalmasca and Nabradia, who are unwilling to have either state advance into other territories.

557

  • Rumours of the Archadian Empire experimenting with forgotten technology begin to surface after the city of Archades is briefly covered with Mist, resulting in several bizarre deaths and manifestations of creatures not seen since the Age of Gods.

582

  • The question of succession becomes imminent in Archadia as the last of the Emperor’s sons dies under mysterious circumstances. The ruling houses of Archadia suddenly experience a significant thinning out as numerous assassinations take place.

600

  • House Thrace rises to power as the first of the Thrace Emperors is crowned.

615

  • Despite a steady stream of profits, Archadian operations in the Henne Mines cease, and the mine is closed off. Causes unknown.

642

  • Rozarrian forces are pushed back by Archadia, who reclaim some of their lost territory.

650

  • A large section of the Golmore Jungle is burned down by Archadian forces, although the precise cause or motives behind this apparent conflict between the nation and the Viera people is unknown. Since this incident, the Jungle has become all the more inhospitable for the other races, and little is seen of the Viera who dwell within.

666

  • Archades is almost destroyed entirely by a Magick-wrought fire; a large percentage of the city is burned down. The fire is believed to have originated from the laboratories, but much of the documentation surrounding this event has been lost.

690

  • Current Emperor of Archadia, Argenta D’reena Thrace, ascends to the throne, and immediately begins expanding Archadian territories and chasing any and all leads on the Dynast King’s legacies.
  • Sudden increase in the number of treasure hunters in Ivalice; multiple guilds formed.

692

  • Rozarria begins to seek alliances with Dalmasca and Nabradia as her borders are threatened by Archadian forces. Tentative alliances established, yet with no commitment to military engagement.

695

  • Archadia launches a raid on Raithwall’s Tomb to recover the Dawn Shard, rumoured to be buried inside. Two Judge Magisters and an entire fleet of ships lost in the attempt.
  • Rumours of the location of the Sword of Kings begin to surface in response to Emperor Thrace’s desire to possess it. None led to the correct location.

703

  • The King of Nabradia, Elgyas XVI, is assassinated, and the Midlight Shard stolen. Rumours suggest Archadian agents behind the actions, after treatise legitimizing Archadian presence along Nabradian borders denied were previously denied by the monarch to avoid an Archadian foothold on the sovereign state.
  • Civil War begins in Nabradia immediately afterwards, as the King’s two sons, Veltan and Renais, begin a battle for succession. Veltan, as the elder (although, as a bastard son, his legitimacy as a successor was called into question) requests the aid of Rozarria, backed by Dalmasca.

704

  • Renais yields after a year long Civil War, and is captured by Archadian forces as he attempts to flee Nabradia.
  • The Archadian Empire moves soldiers into Nabradian territory in response to the Rozarrian presence, claiming Renais as rightful King of Nabradia. It is unknown if any deals were made between the two, or whether Renais was simply a puppet.
  • First battle of Nabudis. Combined Rozarrian and Nabradian forces succeed in driving back the invading Archadian forces.
  • The Kingdom of Dalmasca declares war upon the Empire of Archadia, begins to move soldiers into Nabradian territory to drive their forces out.
  • Second battle of Nabudis. The Judge Magisters of Archadia decimate the opposing forces with the power of the Espers and destroy the entire city and its population. Veltan killed in the conflict.
  • Archadian forces continue on to Nalbina Fortress. Rozarria withdraw from Nabradia, leaving Dalmascan and what little remains of Nabradian forces to fend for themselves.
  • Battle of Nalbina Fortress. Resulted in Archadian victory, and the final subjugation of both Nabradia and Dalmasca. Renais assassinated after signing a treaty granting Archadia rights over Nabradian territory. Final fate of Dalmascan heir unknown; presumed dead.

The Zodiac Job System

Equipment

In this RP, the level of the equipment that a character is able to use will reflect their capabilities in that area. As an example, a White Mage is capable of equipping up to Mystic Armour (13) in game. This would give them a much greater resistance to magic than a Breaker, who cannot equip Mystic Armour at all. However, a Breaker is capable of equipping Heavy Armour (12), granting them an extremely high physical resistance in comparison. A Breaker would also be considerably slower than a White Mage as a result, because their armour is heavier.

Someone like an Archer, who can equip both high level Light and Heavy Armour, would be extremely quick, but with a high degree of resistance to physical punishment...only no resistance at all to magic damage. Logical, no? Use your common sense when deciding what bonuses or disadvantages your character has in relation to their equippable weapons and armour. I don’t need to tell you to fight sensibly, do I? Obviously you can dress your character however you like; this is just a way of transferring their strengths and weaknesses into the RP. Although they will only be able to use weapons they have a license for.

Your character will only be able to use the weapons they have a license for. This does not mean if you give a White Mage a gun they won’t be able to use it - that's just silly - but they won’t have any degree of knowledge of how to use it properly, so it’d be effectively useless to them. Obviously, the stronger the magic, the longer the casting time.

Magick

The level of Magick your character can wield will correspond with the Magick they would learn unlocking that license. So, an Uhlan can learn Black Magicks 5 through 8. They cannot learn Black Magicks 1 through 4, however, so they cannot use those spells.

For the sake of simplicity, Accessories and Technicks will be ignored. For a list of Magicks, consult the next post; this is just to save you trying to remember it or having to constantly flick to the FF Wiki, and will serve as a handy reference.
