Help i'm stuck in the elevator in esthar

do you actually have to press something. i have zell and quistis in my group. the elevator is actually going up but when the elevator stops and I go through the door when quistis says something. What now squall? in the room i'm stuck can't do anything, is it the game itself that's not working? or am I supposed to be stuck?

I'd say you should just talk to everyone there and walk all around the elevator until the next cut-scene starts. Either walking to a certain part of the elevator or initiating conversation should trigger the next part. I won't spoil the next cut-scene, you're gonna love it! Hope that helps!
 
Ur disks fucked man. I had the exact same problem in the exact same place, no matter how much i cleaned it it always jammed in the esthar elevator. Im afraid ul need a new disk 3 pal.
 
Hmm, that's strange, but that tends to happen at times in this game. I know there are a few issues in certain areas of the game which end up coming down to the game not liking a certain party. If you have a save before entering Esthar (or if you can go back through the Great Salt Lake back to the main map) and change your party. It's worth a try anyway if you can go back, even if it's before you battled Abadon just to see if it works then.

that means that if I use a new disk 3, i'd have to start the game over again right? since its not going to be the same disks I started on
 
A new disc 3 wouldn't require you to start over again, all the discs have the same data, so you'd pick-up where you left off. I don't think it's your disc though. Actually, are you playing this on a PS1 or 2? If you're on a PS2, it should be able to move the game through the scratches because its a faster laser. I had issues with my disc 1 on PS1, but on the PS2 it works fine.
 
About the PS2 or PS1, it really depends on the severity of the scratch I believe. My FFVIII Disc 1 screws up everytime I summon Quetzacotl (sound and vibration works, but game freezes during thunder storm animation), and I'm using a PS2 to play. So, yeah, I suggest you check your disc and try to clean it or something. Or use a PS2 and see if it works.
 
Mine never worked regardless of whether i used my ps1 or 2.
Thinkin about it now i actually did manage to get it to load past the esthar elevator eventually, after a lot of disk cleaning fluid. However it would ALWAYS and this is the bit it never got past, the space launching. Where u send Squall, rinoa and one other to space, that little FMV it shows would never run through. Buy a new disk man cuz even if you somehow get past that bit i garuntee it will freeze later on at the lunar base.
