ok i'm at the Spectral Keeper (I think) it's the one right before the yunalesca battle, i get him down to about 30k health and die.....what should i do?

Battle strategy? Um. First cast Hastega on your party. Then have the party member with the highest HP stand in front of the thing, while the other party members avoid it. Try to keep the other two party members far away from the one you're using to distract the thing.
Other than that....... you also have to avoid the mines.

I just make sure none of my guys are stood next to each other, and move as soon as the pad thingies start flashing purple. It's always easier to just play it safe in this fight, if you think you might need to heal, just do it

Easiest thing to do is go for a triangular position so basically move your characters onto spaces so that you form a triangle around the creature this stops all of your characters being hit with his claw swipes. unfortunately when you get berserked by his tale its hard to get out of unless you have the appropriate spell i used auron tidus and yuna. hastega on them all. Aeons can last a few turns because they cant shift to dodge the mines so when you summon make sure you can attack with your overdrive.
in honesty its a not a completely difficult fight. if you keep a regular healer healing your party and auron and tidus hitting with quick hit. whilst avoiding the mines it shouldnt take that long to bring him down

should i get enough hypello potions to add berserk ward to at least 3 characters?
If you want to get Berserk Ward go for it. Although its not needed for the battle. Maybe you just have to gain some sphere grid points and get stronger. You could do the overdrive thing where you go into battle with everyones overdrive and use them. This includes Aeons too. That will take his HP down a bit.

-Start with Tidus, Yuna, and Auron. Equip everyone with armor bearing Berserk Ward or Berserk Proof.
-Cast Hastega immediately.
-Move 2 characters behind the boss and leave the one with the highest HP in front for distraction. Cast protect on the front person and have him attack. Heal him when need arises.
-Move out of the way of exploding mines when need too and preform the same maneuver as above.
-Only summon aeons that are in Overdrive, because you will only get one chance with them.
-Cast Hastega immediately.
