In the Shinra Building on the 62nd floor where you have to guess the password. I wanted the materia prize so went to make sure I had the first guess right.

Anyway, checking the books in the rooms, I came up with a combination. Went to the mayor, but none of the words matched what I'd written down, so went back and checked twice again.

Then it clicked, there's TWO books on every shelf. I for some reason assumed there was only one per shelf. :wacky: Got the Elemental Materia now, but that really was driving me nuts, how could I be so dumb?! :gasp:

Any of you done stupid things like that while trying to solve puzzles or whatever in the game?

I always save right before doing anything important. I even keep extra saves of old areas in case I screw up my file, I can sacrifice my progress along with my mistake an go back to my file before I messed up.

I know at first I didn't get it so I asked my brother on how he did it and I was like 'FUCK!! I HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN"but at that time I haven't since I found Tifa so I had to do everything all-over again

I think first time, I gave up and just guessed every answer til I got the right one. I hate this part though, because I kow Il always get ONE of the letters wrong so I have to hope for the best sometimes, and more often than not I get it right first time. If it wasnt for the fact that you get that stupid accesory/materia whatever it is, for getting it right first guess I wouldnt sodding bother

I never understood that riddle/password thing at all. Still to this day it makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Il just guess and hopefully its right. More than often the password seems to be bomb so i usually pick that, hope for the best. If its something i need to get il save before hand so if i fuck up i can load up the game.

It's a strange one, but easy when you know how and realise there's SIX books in a room. :monster:

Quick explanation: You have to find the book that doesn't fit. So before entering one of the rooms, check the sign next to the door, if the title is "Scientific Research" check for a book that doesn't come under that catergory. So if you found a book in that room saying "4 Urban Developement" that would be the odd one out. Then you just use the number infront of the title, and count that many letters accross, so if it is "4 Urban Developement" your letter will "A." Then do the same in the rest of the rooms. If you're left with "AKMO" as your four letters, then the password would be "MAKO."

If that made sense?

I've only observed that the secret word is either, BOMB, KING, or MAKO -- I've never seen it to be anything else.

And yes - use that book trick... by the time you find the second book that doesn't belong in the room, it's easy to figure out which one the password is since those are the only three... the rest or just to throw you off.

It was BEST for me when I done it yesterday.

Though I sort've remember it either being MAKO or BOMB the majority of the time when I was playing through it regulary few years back.

Goddamn Mayor!!

I remember doing the exact same thing! Thinking I'd worked it out, writing all the clues down, then being dumbfounded when it wasn't there, so picked somthing sort of similar and it was wrong!

Next time i studied them very carefully! Damn two books on a shelf! :wacky:

First time i did it i thought you had to get the letter from EVERY book. I was so annoyed when i ended up with a long row of random letter's :P
