I hate to be the n00b but....

I'd go with 7 first that's where I started and it would be also good to start with 10 or 8 but it really depends since my ff7 is on our PC

well any would be good but it would be better to 7 up since it has nice graphics it would be better to start playing FF first before playing KH so that at least you have a heads up :D
 
My first was FF4, and that game hooked in minutes! It had me hooked on the series for *life* before my first all-nighter with it was over.

Anyways, I'd say 7 is a good starting place. 6 is the best.

Games to AVOID starting with:

FF5 (avoid at all costs until you've played FF3 or FF1)
FF2 (worst game in the series)
FF8 (yeah, play another one first, this one just might put you off)
FF11 (it's an MMO, 'nuff said)
 
I'd start with FFIX. It's one of the easiest FF games, but it's a great one for a first game - you'll pick it up easily and won't get frustrated with it. It'll also give some insight on what earlier games in the series, as it's a tribute to those games.

FFIX also has an amazing storyline, with epic characters and amazing music. It's always worth a play. The fact that it references and tributes the rest of the series helps make it the perfect FF game to play if you want a flavour of what the series is like, in my opinion.
 
What Mark said :monster:, either IX or X, mainly because they're two of the higher rated FF games which means you'll probably them and the storylines aren't really too complex to get into. And FFX probably defined the RPG era for PS2 since it was that good, especially at the time of release. Possibly XII but it has a different battle system to previous titles in the series so it may not give you what you're looking for. So definitely IX or X.

Don't be fooled by FFVII, it's whored and seriously isn't as good as what gaming sites make it out to be >.>
 
While most people have played FF games, there are a few people here that have a limited amount of experience with them and some just haven't played them at all. But that's because though it's an FF forum, it does have other aspects. :monster:
