I didn't Like Trances

I didn't mind them. I had skills learned to get them faster (Can't remember the names) so I usually got to use them in important boss fights. Of course, I spent a lot of time leveling up, so I never had a problem either way.

When I got trance, it would be more like a fun surprise.

OK, I'm an idiot, whatever. I remember playing FFX later and going "What the hell? I can just level these up and save them for whenever? This is way too easy" Maybe a balance between the two would be better.

Agreed.. I'm playing IX the second time through now and I have yet to hit a Trance at a good time. Usually at the end of the fight against some week jokers. But that in itself is a challenge to time it out just right.

Garnet's trance just increases the probability of having the Eidolon show up and increase attack power.
Actually, when Trance Garnet summons an Eidolon, that Eidolon will turn up again and again at regular intervals as long as Garnet remains in trance and does not summon another Eidolon.

Steiner's trance doesn't give him any abilities...it just doubles his attack power.
Trance triples the amount of damage Steiner deals when using the Attack command, unless he has the Blood Sword equipped, and then damage is only increased by 50% like it is for all other characters in trance.

Quina's trance is utterly STUPID. All it does is increase the chances of eating enemies.
Which is great for getting Blue Magic. Once Quina has all it's blue magic, it has no need for trance.

Zidane has the best trance of all the characters. Mostly they deal physical damage.
When Zidane has a strong attack or Thievery, Dyne attacks just do similar damage for a higher MP cost. The only advantage Trance Zidane has is that he can attack multiple enemies at once.

I had a few problems with it. Come on Square! Use FF7's Limits and just call them trance. I seriously wasted hours bringing my trance up for tough bosses and then they went off at the easiest enemies in the game.

Yup, I had the same problem. I always saved up for boss battles. Then I get owned by going into to trance right before the boss battle. :/

Beleive me, Steiner isnt useless with Vivi ! His Sword Arts are much better than those magic sword attacks I actually neve ruse the sword magic ones except early game a bit where they're automatically in the party together. quote

Agreed. Magic sword was useless. Plus the fact when using magic sword, you have to watch out if the enemy is immune to the elemental spell. Shock > Magic sword

Am I the only one here who thought Vivi was weak? I didn't find his black magic to be too power towards the end of the game.

@Gaia
Early on in the game, Zidane has the most powerful trance.
And I agree, once Quina has all her blue magic, trance is practically uesless...but worth it.

Zidane's trance goes from being incredibly useful at the start of the game to being near-useless near the end. Even Quina's trance is marginally more useful near the end of the game - s/he gets the 50% attack bonus without sacrificing his/her Blue Magic, and using Cook s/he can instantly defeat enemies with less than 50% of their max HP.

the trances would have been perfectly fine for me if they were just controllable. even though they werent, they were still better than XII's quickenings.

The only reason i ever play ff games it trance. I replay ff7 and 8 repeatedly in a vain attempt to unlock trance. I beat Omega weapon on ff8 without using attack, magic and limit breaks but to no avail it did not reveal my love of trance despite the rumors. This does not lead to the ultimate ff master piece "TRANCE" If u can tell me how do get it on teh other games please let me know ...i will pay for sugestions.

I liked Trances and how they also played a role in the game when Kuja goes into it, but there is one aspect that ticked me off...

I think that when one of your characters goes into Trance, you should be able to choose when you wish to use it instead of being forced into it. Nothing irked me mroe than being forced into Overdrive with Zidane and never getting to use it because Quina sat on some frog and killed it too quick.

That's bullshit.

What are you talking about?
Trance is the Overdrive/Limit break from FF9.

I know it is i just want to obtain it on the other ff 's i herd a victiolsy sickening rumor that you could obtain trance on the many different FF releases E.G. 7 8 and the other one.

Nah, you can't.

Trances are exclusive to FFIX. FFVII has Limit's and FFVIII has Limit Breaks as well, but not Trances.

yeah i didnt' really like trances either. They kinda pissed me off for the same reasons it pissed alot of other ppl off. They went off when you didn't want them to.

I hated trances. There weren\'t very many good ones and the ones that were good costed a ton of MP. I hate how they go off when you don\'t want them to and after the battle you lose them so you can\'t save them for a tough boss battle.

I didn't like how they wore off at the end of battle and you don't get a chance to use them sometimes. It always sucks when someone trances right before the enemy is killed.

That, indeed, does suck.

But no one can say that I wasn't useful during battles ^_^ I think Trances could easily be improved. All they need is an activation feature, and some actual abilities for some characters (Freya, Steiner). What it could be:

Zidane = Dyne
Garnet = Eidolon (Powers up the summons and does the intant-summon thing)
Eiko = Double White Magic (and boosts the effects of all spells)
Vivi = Double Black Magic (and boosts the power of all spells)
Quina = Cook & Double Blue Magic (increases chances of eating enemy & can use two Blue Magic spells in a turn)
Freya = A few "Jump" abilities would be cool ^_^
Amarant = having an aray of abilities would be good. Like, a throwing frenzy or a kind of Taunt ability: he moves around, taunting the enemy to attack him, but he dodges anyway (like he first did in Madain Sari)

Ugh what's worse is when you recieve trance at the end of the battle, when you're like one hit away from winning.

And if someone recieves trance and they don't use it...the trance bar is completely empty in the next battle, regardless...

The whole Trance system was quite infuriating. As people have mentioned it always came into effect at the wrong time. It was very rare it came when you needed it. The effects on characters was a nice feature, however. It was a nice idea, the way the characters were enhanced, however I didn't find myself caring too much if they did';t get it after a while. It was too much of a chore to try and get the trance gauge to fill when you wanted it to. It should have worked like the Limit Breaks just with the enhanced abilities of the characters. Once the gauge fills up you can manually activate it. The sytem was a bit clumsy.

i pefer limets and overdrives cause u can contol them unilke trances which just happen at any time plus i think the limets and overdrives have been thought over more
