How long before you got lucky and obtained Excalibur?

Please include which version of Final Fantasy XII you have. (i.e JP, EU, American)

I'm curious. I'm also looking for possible trends relative to each version of the game.

it isnt actually hard to get
the zodiac spear in henne mines was harder lol
i took me 10-30 mins

I'm beginning to think that I'm at the wrong place or that my game's broken. -_-

I've been trying for in excess of two hours now.>_<

Just to be sure, it is the purple reliquary-type treasure 'chest' at the number 5 on this map, right?

i think so
do 2 horses come after you when you go to the gem?

There's one near the treasure itself and, once I get there, another two run from the zone towards me, yeah. There's a couple in the previous field screen too, and another in the one before that.

Another thing that bothers me is that, in the key at the side of the page I linked, it says that the treasure that can be found in that chest (other than gil) will either be the Excalibur or a Mage's Ring. However, I managed to get a Renewing Morion. (To refresh your memory, the Renewing Morion is mediocre light armor headgear.)

Meh.

lol ithink the excalibur is 5% chance
you do remember that to get teh excalibur you have to get the gem first then if the gem stays even after getting it the next will be excalibur

Oh, right.

Yeah, once I get there, I equip the diamond armlet, run in and open it, then run for my life. I then run back through 3 zones to reset the 'gem', rinse and repeat.

I guess it's just my (absolute freakin' horrible) luck.

Thanks for your help.

Edit: Argh, had to wait 'till after maintenance to submit that. Well, anyway, after I typed that out, I went away for an hour to do something else, came back, un-paused FF, re-spawned the gem from my previous try, ran back to open the new one and got Excalibur. Wow. Heh.

The same thing happened to me that had happened to the person who wrote the weapon guide that I was following. There seemed to be two chests in place, one overlapping the other. The first contained gil, the second the elusive sword. Fun.

I got it my very first time because there are 2 treasure coffers where the Excalibur is. The first time you go to open one, you get 1 Gil. Then jsut stand there again, press the "x" button, and you will open the treasure chest underneath which is Excalibur.

isn't the great crystal the area after gueryovan with the big crystal instead of a map, if so, where are all the freaking monsters, it's deserted here except for some cats. i came here for the second time after the story line just so i can acquire this sword.

did any of you get tournesol? god i have no luck when it comes to getting the items to make stuff in that game, it took me forever just to get ultima weapon. but it took me a lot of tries to get exalibur cause i have no luck in video games when it comes to that type of stuff. maybe 3 hours.
