It was big news over here, but little less than a month ago, a radio broadcaster was taken off the air for making rather racist, sexist comments about a college women's basketball team.

But then again, what he said wasn't really even fully as bad as most people the nation over say?
So why did he get banned from the waves?

How far is too far, and why do people define that line the way they do?
Is it just based on morals, political correctness, or something else, or more else?

Are you refering to the man who said something along the lines of "nappy headed hos"?
 
Jesus, did you see those women? That's a pretty accurate description. What really pisses me off about all that Don Imus shit is that it was a pretty weak comment compared to all the other radical shit he's said in the past. I mean the guy is a radio jackass that spews shit from the depths of his bowls out his mouth for a paycheck. It was so random that he got pulled.
 
Yeah, I agree. I mean people say bad stuff all the time, most likely much much worse than what Don Imus said. And yet we don't see them getting pulled off the air do we? =\

Why exactly did he get pulled the way he did?
Why did the public react the way it did even though many other, perhaps countless other sources out there do much worse?
 
It's an accurate description alright, but apparently freedom of speach is a no go nowadays. =\
This kind of thing makes me ponder why South Park can stay on the air and people like Don Imus lose their job for cracking a remark like that.
Not that I dislike south park. =D

The thing with South Park is that it's known as a comedy, so it's not really taken as seriously as it should if it were otherwise, I think.
 
yeah, like say if the simpsons started using South parks comedy style, the simpsons would probably be pulled of the air... yeah south park is awesome hehe
 
The reason he got pulled was for two major reasons. One there were a lot of Black rights activists that stood up... but moreso that the sponsors of the show just didn't want to be tied to a racist remarks that got time in the limelight. As soon as that comment came under inspection, people like Proctor & Gamble just fled.
 
When South Park does something controversial it's usually to promote some sort of political or social message. It's satire, not just random offensive content for no reason. Don Imus's comment was not satirical, it was just blatantly racist.

I'm guessing it's true to an extent. But as to why he did it and his intentions, I think it was just a slip...that he got slammed for.
 
He got pulled for a variety of reasons.

One of the things is that unlike South Park, who draw in caricatures of their celebrity guests, Imus got big names on his show. People with money, power, and influence. That was a big part of the show. By tarnishing the show in any way, he jeopardized his ability to still have these guests, and thereby the viability of his program.

Two, he was attacking a team of young, female college athletes, who were seen at the time as a point of inspiration due to their Cinderella season. Bad choice of target, terrible timing.

Three, it wasn't even funny. His delivery, and even the context, were horrible.
 
Yea but that's not at all why he got pulled. Those things could be incredibly true but a lot of people listen to Imus and jerk to his every word. The reason he got pulled is because the comments were seen as racist and sexist and no one gave a shit... but the companies donating to CBS who threatened to pull out. Imus < Financial contributors. Imus loses.
 
How about people ignore crappy talk shows like Don Imus and start listening to entertaining stuff like Tom Lykis, Don and Mike or even Phil Hendrie? The fact that one little remark (I've heard FAR worse stuff on talk radio, by the way) was made into such a big deal is absurd.
