Well I've searched the web and noticed how not many guides state different combos of gambits. There are a lot of possibilities and I got my share of great gambits. I was wondering what the people on FFF would dish out. So how do you set up your gambits and please discribe what its good for. I'll go first.

Vaan
Ally: HP < 40% --- Curaga
Ally: any --- Arise
Ally: Any --- Esunaga
Self: MP <30% --- Charge
Ally: Any --- Bubble
Foe: Flying --- Telekinesis
Foe: Character HP > 90% --- Expose
Foe: Character HP > 70% --- Wither
Foe: Character HP > 50% --- Attack
Self --- Bravery
Self --- Protect
Self --- Haste

Reason/results - Vaan is a good fighter and in this case has the ability to tear his opponent down with expose and wither. The bad effect is he does these two Technicks until he gets 50% of his MAX (not bubble MAX) HP down. so if he has 4000 HP and with bubble the MAX is 8000 the enemy still only needs to take down 2000 before he starts attacking.

Another thing is the bravery, protect, and haste which makes his attack stronger, his damage taken lighter, and his speed faster. Equip him with the Battle Harness and Genji Armor to counter attack before his HP hits 50%. and he gains regular attacks.

I use two technicks for all my characters, Charge, and telekinesis. Charge is put at 30% hp so I will get enough MP to do a quickening. The downfall, not much since its only 30% of my MP, is that if you miss you will lose all MP. If you don't like that you can cast Syphon instead which is a cheap spell to steal enemies MP.

Atlast this is the only time I'll say this. Every character has Cure spells, Arise spells, esunaga and bubble. There are a few exceptions.

Barthier
I haven't figured a good edge for barthier. Sorry guys.

Fran
Ally: HP < 60% --- Curaga
Ally: any --- arise
Ally: Any --- esunaga
Self: MP < 30% --- Charge
Foe: Status = Reflect --- Attack
Foe: Water-weak --- Water
Foe: Lightning-weak --- Thundraga
Foe: Fire-Weak --- Ardor
Foe: Ice-Weak --- blizzaga
Foe: Wind-weak --- Aeroga
Foe: holy-weak --- Holy
Foe: Dark-weak --- Darkga

Results/ reason - Fran is my ultimate black mage. If an emeny is weak to an element she'll find it and cast the hurt. The only thing is I've never found a earth related spell to add to the mix, sadly. Anyways all enemies (maybe exclude a few) is weak to one of the elements. If they cast reflect she will switch to normal attacks. Put a good weapon on and she's a nice attacker.

Basch
Ally: HP < 60% --- Curaga
Ally: any --- Arise
Ally: Any --- Esunaga
Ally: Any --- Bubble
Self: MP < 30% --- Charge
Foe: Flying --- Telekinesis
Foe: any --- Attack
Self --- Haste
Self --- Bravery
Self --- Berserk
Blank *
Blank *

*You can fill in the blanks with stuff like regen, shell or protect.

Results/reason - He is my berserker. He starts off with bubble, haste, and bravery and then casts berserk on himself. When needed I put some protective buffs in the blank slots and place them above Berserk. Its important cause once he goes into berserk he won't be able to cast them.

This is not a solo gambit combo but a very deadly one. Berserk offers a fast attack (Haste helps this even more) and a stronger attack (Bravery helps this even more). I've seen my friend take Basch on a run in the deadlands overlooking eternity and he cleared all of them out within mins.

Ashe
Ally: HP < 60% --- Curaga
Ally: Any --- Arise
Ally: any --- Esunaga
Ally: status = disease --- Cleanse
Ally: Any --- regen
Ally: Any --- Protectga
Ally: any --- Shellga
Ally: Any --- Bubble
Self: MP < 30% --- Charge
Foe: any --- Dispel
Foe: flying --- telekinesis
Foe: any --- attack

Results/reasons - Ashe is my white mage and buffer. disease is anyways hard to get rid of since esuna don't do it. Vaccine and remedy do but who wants to waste an item? Thats why I'm proud of Cleanse and had to have a gambit set up just for it. It may seem like she is overloaded with protective spells but after she casts them she attacks a lot also. Just give her a good weapon hehe.

Also if Ashe will strip away all positive effects the enemy have on them.

Penelo
Ally: HP <60% --- Curaga
Ally: Any --- Arise
Ally: Any --- Esunaga
Ally: Any --- Bubble
Self: MP < 30% --- charge
Foe: Flying --- Telekinesis
Foe: Character HP < 90% --- Attack
Foe: Any --- Blindga
Foe: Any --- Silencega
Foe: Any --- Slowga
Foe: Any --- Sleepga
Foe: Any --- Bio,poison,scourge,bleed,toxify

Results/reason - Well this isn't the best I've come up with. As a matter of fact unless you diddle around with the gambit order you'll find that she'll cast blindga repeatively when a character is immune. Same with the other spells. I suggest you switch them in order where your fighting at. If you know the enemies there are vulnerable to blind or other effects put them up above attack. If they are immune to blind or any of the side effects put them on the bottom gambits.

So Whats your Gambits like and what do you try and do with them?

I don't want to pop in my FFXII disc and look over all of my gambits but I believe they go something like this:

[ Vaan & Basch ]

Ally Any -> Arise
Self -> Decoy
Self -> Bravery
Self - Berserk
Self MP < 10% -> Charge
Telekinesis -> Flying
Attack -> Lowest HP
Attack -> Nearest Visible

[ Fran & Balthier ]

Ally Any -> Arise
Ally < 40% HP -> Curaga
Self < 50% HP -> Cura
Ally Any -> Esuna
Ally Any -> Bubble
Ally Any -> Protectga
Ally Any -> Shellga
Self MP < 10% -> Charge
Telekinesis -> Flying (this changes depending on weapon. Balthier is suprisingly good with a bow)
Attack -> Lowest HP
Attack -> Nearest Visible

[ Ashe & Penelo ]
Ally Any -> Arise
Ally < 60% HP -> Curaga
Ally Any -> Esuna
Ally Any -> Haste
Ally Any -> Bubble
Self -> Faith
Self MP < 10% -> Charge
Foe: Fire-Weak -> Firaga
Foe: Ice-Weak -> Blizzaga
Foe: Thunder-Weak -> Thundaga
Attack -> Lowest HP
Attack -> Nearest Visible

That seems about right. I'm sure I'm missing some... especially on Ashe/Penolo. Should be close enough. ^_^

When the gambits screen comes up it only has two options for me to do so how are you able to do 12 at once :s

You can learn more on the licence board. top half, lower left corner.

I like that buddy system synlea posted. My friend actually wants to set up his gambits like that.

i have my FF12 disk in but its at the main screen cause I'm soft resetting and getting 5 more formalhaults just so i have 6 of them but my gambits for my people go something like this, I'll start with Ashe, Penelo, and Bashe since they are my 3 main characters and are all lvl 99.
Ashe:
Ally: KO = Arise
Ally: Hp < 30% = Renew
Ally: Sap = Regen
Self: Hastega
Foe: Nearest Visible = attack

Penelo:
Ally: KO = Arise
Ally: Hp < 30% = Renew
Ally: Sleep, confuse, bad status affect = magic/item that cures
Ally: Any = Protectga
Foe: Nearest Visible = Attack

Bashe:
Ally: KO = Arise
Ally: Hp < 30% = Renew
Ally: Ashe = Decoy
Ally: any bad status(as seen on Penelo) item/magic that cures
Foe: Nearest Visible = Attack

Fran:
Pretty much the same as Penelo

Balthier:
Ally: KO = Arise
Ally: Hp < 30% = Renew
Foe: Nearest Visible = Attack

Vaan:
still pretty much the same as Penelo and Fran

That one posted by Synlea looks really good. Although I'd be worried that I'd have to go through ethers like no tomorrow. Charge is far from fool proof. In fact from what I remember, its kind of unreliable. A decent ability nonetheless.

I couldn't hope to remember what my gambits are/were. If I turned the game on, I probably wouldn't post them anyway. Since the get go I've had no effing clue what I'm doing with gambits. I'm sure they're mediocre at best. I never have a clue what's going on. I've ended up mostly playing for all three characters, healing with a particular character manually. The only automatic gambits I've let them do is normal attacking and Life/Phoenix Down. I'm just before the Stilshrine of Miriam, so I still have a long ways to go anyway.

I cant remember how mines were set up either, but I knew that I had all three of my party members set up to cast arise upon K.O and curaga when someone's HP went into the danger zones. Gambits didnt really matter that much to me while playing the game. I only had the necessities

Lmao, i don't really remember mine very well.... But i remember i didn't set any to Vaan because he stayed in my main party and was the one that i mainly used... Other 2 were Basch and Ashe.. and i think they both had the exact same gambits aside from some status ailment curing ones.

Something along the lines of Cura around 40% HP, and a couple other healing ones.. but other than that, it was mainly just Foe: Attack, and a bunch of status healing. >_<
