I have never like buying games for my PC (every time I do SOMETHING doesnt work and I end up screaming at the screen and spending more just to make the %$^%^ game work)

The same goes for FFXIV, i'll buy it for my PS3, but the real question is: am I buying it because is a good MMORPG, or is it because it has the FF name on it?

It might be a dumb question to ask, but did you ever wounder if you would actually review a FF to find if is a good game before buying it, or even doubt if your going to buy it at all?

I ask because it has never happend to me. As soon as a FF is announce, my walets knows is going on a diet, cause IT WILL BE MINE!!!
Only after hearing so many mix reviews about FFXIV do I ask myself: should I buy it?

Of course 1.45 second later a huge YES!!! pops in my head and thats that, but I was woundering if that ever happend to someone else

I must admit, I'm the same.
Except I'm a hopeless fangirl, but never mind =P

With titles I enjoy, such as the Tales games, Star Ocean, Dark Cloud, Kingdom Hearts, and of course Final Fantasy, I know I usually play and enjoy the games, so I just buy them once I see them in a store, I don't ask myself any questions about it.
I never bought FFXI though, and probably won't buy FFXIV, simply because I don't enjoy MMORPGs unless I have people to play them with, and most of my friends are still hooked on Warcraft and won't look at an MMO Final Fantasy game.
I'm a casual gamer, I only play every now and then. I think you'd need to be more dedicated than me to properly play an MMO game, where it's more difficult to just pick it up and play every now and then.
But that's just my opinion.

For the other Final Fantasy games though, I always just see them, and take them to the counter without a second thought

I did get a similar feeling as well. I've been playing Final Fantasy how long for now, about...7-8 years and the game series has held such a memorable place in my heart ever since I started trying it out. I bought FFXIII straight away purely because I had been anticipating for it for a long time. I read a lot on it before its release, so I was very aware of the game's alleged negative points and letdowns, but being the fan I was, I instantly snapped it up anyway. I've kind of learnt my lesson from that. Add to the fact that I've grown very cynical of SE lately, that's eclipsed the fangirl in me significantly to the point where I'm sure I'll lose the feeling completely sooner or later.

But on the topic of FFXIV, I was actually initially rather surprised at how many people claim they will buy it for the PS3 despite its slaughter at the hands of reviewers. I understand if you feel compelled to buy it because of the fact that it's a Final Fantasy game, especially as you're not going to buy the game thinking it's a great one. We're all fanboys/girls at heart and had FFXIV not been an MMO, I may have picked it up one day eventually. As FFXI and FFXIV are MMOs, that has stopped me from ever touching them as I generally do not touch those kind of games.

...Is there really a bigger hopeless fanboy than I?

Is there really?

...

No. That is impossible. >:)

P.S. - See my little avatar picture? That's my date with one of my harems in FFXIV.

If you're a girl looking for some amazing Final Fantasy Adventure, go buy the game and play on the Karnak Server. All you have to do is have a cute female character and I'll FIND you. lol. And I'm notorious enough in the game to not be unnoticed.

Do you want to feel like a Tifa Lockheart? A Rinoa Heartily? Then join the ride. ;)

im not sure it will work on my pc, so i will have to wait for PS3, but it kinda sucks, because its like 4 months at least, yet for pc its next week :(.

I think they should release at same time but hey i dont own the rights to do it ^^.

I'm kinda confused as to where you're getting that FFXIV is coming out next week o_O It's been out since September of last year :lew: And in order to play it you need a really high powered computer. Mine might be able to play it on medium to high settings, but I'm not really sure. (and holy gravedig, Batman :gasp)

Im just an idiot. I know the FF name has gone to utter shit, but can I help but buy the games? Can I fuck. Im sure Il end up with the PS3 version of FFXIV knowing fine well Il think its shite and wish id not bothered.

I'd play the game if it didn't have a monthly fee. Probably be more worth it that way.

To answer the OP's question, no it doesn't happen to me. I didn't and don't want to buy any of the new FF titles, except for Dissidia of course. :hmm:

But if you are still deciding on the game, you should consider: Do you have the money to pay the fees? I say you should demo it first before you buy the game and think long and hard about it!

The game is still free right now.

I'm an adamant defender of FFXI and to an extent this game as well. It's so disappointing that there's good ideas under the hood but there's minor things here and there that create quite a few hurdles in order to really enjoy the game. Really hope it keeps turning itself around like these updates would lead me to believe.
