I'm not sure if / where there is a help thread, but I was wondering if you guys could offer me some advice? I don't really have someone to talk to about this.
Tonight I was planning on going to the bar to perform comedy. First I would like to let you guys know I don't strive to make contacts in my city. I don't like to network with people where I'm from; the comedy scene here is bogus. But that's besides the point. It's to give you insight into why I might be laughing at what this person is saying.
Lars, who is the host of the comedy night at the bar found out somehow I was bad mouthing a comedian friend of his over facebook. Happened weeks before he talked to me about it. Took me outside told me to stop bad mouthing his friend. I agreed and said I'm sorry. THEN, get this, went on to say "You're a worse comedian than he is. Neil is better than you." This blew my mind. Because everytime Neil gets on stage he bombs. At least every time I've seen him. And my last three shows went spectacular and Lars said I've never done really well, which is insane because I have! I know I have! I've seen it!
Not only did I disagree, but who is he to say he's the authority on whether or not i'm a good comedian? I talk about how I don't think other comedians are good with my comedian friends, but I don't go out of my way to tell those comedians they aren't good. Because they would say "Screw you, who are you to be the authority on that?" Then he says "You'll never be on the tonight show. You'll never be on SNL."
Then I go home, and distraught as I am I call my friend to ask if he wants to get a drink so he says ok and I meet up with him at the bar. I tell him I lost my glasses so I can't see. Then he tells me to go and find a friend of ours and ditches me. So I try, and obviously I can't find him. I try to contact the other friend multiple times and no answer. So eventually I leave.
What's your take on all this guys?
