Ok, so, since I got excellent grades last semester my Mom has decided to reward me with Advent Children Limited Edition Collector's set and one game, any game that I pick. And add to that that I beat my second FF game ever (FF7) so I'm itching for another Final Fantasy adventure. And here are the possibilities:

FF Origins- It has the first two games, which I find awesome, because I'd really like to see the roots of FF. I don't mind older games (I have played and beaten the first Legend of Zelda and its sequel Adventure of Link). However I haven't played such an old RPG, but some people say that it isn't worth it, plus you have to finish it in a sitting because the save system doesn't work like it does today. I really don't have the patience to finish a game in a sitting, but if it's really good then I might give it a try. Some people say that this games are really showing their age and that they don't have much of a plot, which bothers me because I need a good plot to motivate me to play through a game. So I'd like people's opinions if this is worth buying.

FF Chronicles- I'm really interested in this one not only because it has FFIV (which recieves a lot of praise), but also Chrono Trigger which interests me a lot since I love Square and their games tend to be great so I'd like to give that a chance as well. Supposedly, this is the best translation of FFIV that you can find.

FF Anthology- FFVI is regarded as one of the best FFs ever and they say that the job system of FFV is fun, but if it's as fun as the junction system in VIII then *yawn*

FFVIII- I used to have this game, but I gave it to my little cousin since it was his birthday and he loved the game so much. I've played it up to the first mission. Even though the story seemed ok, the junction system bothered me. But if the story is totally awesome and the characters are great, then I might be motivated enough to buy and give this game a second try.

FFIX- I heard it's one of the easiest FFs to pick up and it doesn't have any complicated system, and it has a medieval setting, which I love, but I've heard many mixed reviews about it.

And finally

FFXII- Many people don't like this game, however it has things that attract me like no random battles. But again, I've heard mixed reviews of the story adn charcters (although just by looks Balthier strikes me as awesome.)

So, which game would you recommend? Should I stay far away from any of them or should I just pick randomly because they're all great?

Thanks for attention. (Wow this is the longest post I've ever made so if you read the whole thing, thank you).

Right off the bat, I would recommend you get Anthology just because you get to bag 2 great games in one. Plus, it's really enjoyable, and if you're looking for plot you've got it on both games.

FFVI is probably one of the best when it comes to plot, and graphics aside (which is actually pretty good for 2D), I consider it one of the best FF games ever made.

FFV now (never finished it but it's quite great) has that great job system. The plot was so-so, but it can keep you playing for a couple days straight.

Definatly get FF anthology - since its two games in one and FFVI is simply amazing, especially the music. FFV has also got a great reputation but as i despise job systems i hardly play it.

but FFVI, i really can't sing its praises high enough, its simply awesome.

I would also recommend FFIX and FFXII - but both of them are like marmite - you'll either love it or hate it.

and i agree with you, stay away from FFVIII - especially if you've just played VII - it'll put you right off it, the junction system is just horrible.

but thats just my opinions :D

Hi Yuna, I presume you are talking about the PS1 copy of Origins but playing it on a PS2? If so, you should have no problems with saving so long as you have a PS1 memory card (PS2 memory card won't work).

I own Anthology, Origins and FF6 for PS1, my recommendation would be FF6, it's simply brilliant despite the outdated graphics. Origins and the Anthology are well worth a look as well, I enjoyed both more than FFX. Oh, give your mum a hug and persuade her to get you them all, or steal them under cover of darkness!

Chronicles and Anthology are rare by todays standards. You are not likely to find them in any store other than an independent Game store. Heads up. But I recommend that bunch if you can find them.

IX has good characters and a pretty good story. But there are mixed reviews. If you dont care for the medievil setting, it wont really appeal to you.

XII. The story is kind of weak and the pacing is off. But the GFX are gorgeous, the voice acting is the best in any game, and its challenging.

But it really matters what you're tastes are. You said you like X and VII quite a bit before. I'd say VIII if you didnt hate the battle system cause the aesthetics are the similar.

Anotholy has VI....Chronicles has Chrono Trigger....oh crap x__x

Um....go for Anthology i guess. I really dont know which to tell you to get first, they're both great.

OR...

You could buy IX and then download the ROMs of all the others and not have to worry about the horrible load/save times which plague Anthology, Chonicles, and Origins. Apparently old games being put on a newer powerful console results in very slow loading... <.<

So go for IX ^_^

Why's it affect speed anyway? I would think being on a stronger piece of hardware wouldnt slow it down.

Well if it's a no to my ROM idea...then she should get anthology.

I recommend Anthology as well. The game has FFV and FFVI, which are both great games.

Best to buy Anthology from ebay or a local Gamestop/EB games store that sell used PS1 games.

No EB Games or Gamestop sell PS1 games -__- And gamestop bought out Rhino Games, which DID sell PS1 games. So yeah.......unless you have an independent game store in your area, go with ebay.

I highly recommend that you make FFIX your next installment. I'm not saying this according to personal bias; I did love the junction system in FFVIII (somewhat), but I think...based on the games that you mentioned, FFVIII will not be a good selection for your tastes.

FFIX has a very rich plot that revolves around war and friendship. The romances that occur in the game do not overwhelm the player, nor do they engulf the majority of the game (as FFVIII does).
The battle system is very simplistic. (Many do complain that this is FFIX's only downfall, however, it's very oldschool in my opinion.

I also recommend that you buy FF Anthology. While I have not played FFV, I think that FFVI is one of the best. It's very back to basics. The game is filled with unique characters, great music, and sooo many special perks.
The only unfortunate surrounding is that I was able to beat the game in around 20-30 hours my first time around. (not very long)

I'd go for Anthology because of FFVI - can't say much for FFV as I've never played it.

I might have suggested Chronicles instead as I loved both FFIV and Chrono Trigger (which, in my opinion, is every bit as good as FFVI), but the loading times caused by the movies are irritating.

Thank you! I suggested IX but Holic said no so i went with Anthology T_T

Everyone's suggesting Anthology, VI ftw! ^_^

And the load times are just as irritating on IV or VI as on Chrono Trigger >_< But you really need to buy them all Yuna. But get IX first, then Anthology, then Chronicles.

So far,no FF has really dissapointed me.I think every FF deserves a whole playthrough,so I think you should just randomly choose one.Everyone seems to be referring FFVI,though. ^_^

From what I've played on the FFIII version of FFVI,I can say that FFVI is really that good as everyone says. It's fun and interesting.

I recommend either FFVIII or FFXII. They are both kick ass games and have good plots and stories. some people will argue that FFXII is utter B*******

But i say it is a great game with good characters, especially Balthier as you say. the only bad thing is that it has hardly any piano music in it *sobs*

I gotta agree with Rhea here and say FFIX will be a great game that you will fall in love with completely! It was the game that I watched the intro to and got hooked on the series instantly.

Many complain that the character images and attitudes are childish, however, they face more challenges/trials/adventures than almost any other cast of characters in an FF game to-date. Enjoy it if you go this route! I highly recommend it.

Well if it was me I'd go for Chronicles since it has my two favorite video games on it. XD. If you want the difficult version of IV then go for that version. Although, IV's story is a bit slow paced compared to today's RPGs. Chrono Trigger is also an awesome game and my favorite video game of all time.

But I would recommend that you get Anthology. It's two FF games in one and VI is a great Final Fantasy game and the story is great even by today's standards.

The only thing I have against the PS version of the earlier FF games are the load times. IV's saving times are very irritating, but if you quick save it's a lot nicer. I remember some of VI's loading times really trying my patience but I go through the menu an lot.

If you like VI then you'll definently love IX which I also recommend.

Lol, I think their all great in their own unique way.

If you’ve finished X and VII already, I would probably suggest a FF title in between the two, those obviously being either VIII or IX. Anyway, both are excellent games in my opinion.

FFVIII has a more futuristic Sci-Fi theme to it as I’m sure you know having already played a little bit of it, but it does have a brilliant story to it and I thought most of the character where great despite their bad raps.

FFIX is a great (underrated) game. If castles and a medieval setting is what you like, I’d probably recommend this one to you out of all the others. I has great heartfelt story to it and if you liked the romance that was in X, I’m sure you’ll like the romance in IX as well.

I'm glad I own both FF Anthology and FF Chronicles since they're so rare. I recommend that you buy Chronicles if you can find it somewhere. It's sad that GameStop doesn't sell the old games anymore. That's what I liked most about them. I don't recommend Anthology because you can find new versions of both of the games on the DS or gameboy. After Chronicles, I would recommend FFXIII or FFIX because they're old PS1 games that will be hard to find in a little while.

-I really only recommend Chronicles because it has Chrono Trigger on it. Playing this on Chronicles will probably be the last chance you get unless Square decides to make a remake of it, which i doubt. You can also try to find the SNES version if you want. I recommend Chrono Trigger so much because it's one of my most favorite games ever.

I'd get XII its more expensive than the others and when you complete it you can trade it in for another one probably for free.
