Infinite Undiscovery was an JRPG released by Square Enix a little over a year before Final Fantasy XIII debuted. And oddly enough...it feels like it should BE a Final Fantasy game of some sort.
The game had most of the makings of a Final Fantasy game, though with a more live combat system similar to Crystal Chronicles.
If you have not heard of this game, I highly recommend it. Especially with the narrative the game presents to you.
"An evil kingdom has begun to chain the moon in place as a means to drain power from the celestial object. And wherever the chains are mounted to on the ground, monsters begin to appear, bringing with them pain and despair. There is a resistance of fighters that seek to undo this madness. And you... you are the unfortunate soul who just happens to be the doppelganger of the leader of this resistance. Whether your musician character likes it or not, you are now part of this fight too. Pick up your sword and defend yourself, fluteboy!"
I am honestly surprised this wasn't just a Final Fantasy spin-off and instead was its own stand-alone JRPG game.
EDIT -
If you haven't heard of this game before, I am happy to have revealed its existence to you guys.
