I know a great number of people on this forums have played Halo3 at one point in their Xbox360 lifetime, but has anyone done any custom map experimentation?

Back in the day I used to play Halo3 a little bit, but ended up trading it in for a copy of Gears of War. Recently I reacquired it and my buds and I have been trying to do something new along with our Middle of the night zombie slayings of L4D.

We are creating movie mimicked maps such as Predator maps and others are trying natural disaster maps.

Take Predator in which we recently developed: It's a small break from the norm. If you have played Infestation well just imagine it's Infestation on crack. You have 1 Zombie type of character named the predator in the base model map Valhalla. It's one verse all.

Predator Design: He or She takes 50% less damage, has modified speed, and is invisible the entire time. He has a Spartan Laser and a Sword as weapons. He has 5 spawn points.

Soldier Design: They start with the Battle Rifle but have weapons scattered throughout the map. There are no vehicles so they don't have the advantage of speed. There are miniguns set up on each side and the bases are modified for more defense. So don't be SCAAAARRED.

Description as Soldier: To survive, once you are dead - you are dead. There is no respawn time for you. You spawn once and you need to find and kill the predator.

Point: It's something new. If we all chip in on the map design, we eventually play it with a good amount of people and just hang out all night. Did I mention that women kick ass at Halo3? We have like 5 or 6 that can tear my ass apart in this game. Oh well. good times..

Anyone else doing any map designs still?

When I first got into Halo 3, I made a lot of maps and game variants. I probably did more forging than actual game-playing. It was a lot of fun. My first work was called Excite-Bike and we raced Mongooses around Sandtrap and Guardian. It was a lot of fun actually.

My more recent game variants have been Machinegunner and Ninja Battle.

In Machinegunner, I modified Narrows with Machineguns on either side, no overshield, and increased speed (for normal walking speed when carrying machineguns). It's a lot of fun, especially since I added a lot of respawning barrels in the center.

In Ninja Battle, both your speed and jump height are increased and you can only beat down for a point. I gave everyone a laser pistol so when you beat down, you actually throw a punch. Apparently Bunjie came out with something later to the same effect... but I've never had a chance to play it yet.

I haven't developed anything new in about a year and a half, if not longer.
