As much as gun control could hypothetically help stop violence, the current gun situation is so bad over here that people who want to go in East Baltimore with any reasonable expectation of safety MUST have some form of a gun on them at all times. Plus, you have that little thing called the Second Amendment (in the US, at least), which gives citizens a lot of control over the government. Because people can own guns, the government can only function with the people's consent, and a large enough group of US citizens could theoretically overthrow the government here if they felt so inclined.
