In addition to Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Girl's RPG, developer Brownie Brown's (Heroes of Mana, Mother 3) Fantasy Life, a sixth Professor Layton game and Time Travelers, famed Japanese publisher Level-5 is working on another curious 3DS project. Titled Guild 01, this game is a compilation of smaller titles from developers who have worked on Final Fantasy XII, No More Heroes, Seaman and Tactics Ogre.

Earlier today Level-5 revealed first screens of Crimson Shroud, the component of Guild 01 being developed by Yasumi Matsuno, the creator of the Ogre Battle series, as well as director of Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy XII.

Crimson Shroud - Where's the dungeon master?

The game appears to be a sort of tabletop RPG, allowing players to explore dungeons, fight monsters and acquire loot through mechanics that somehow involve rolling dice (much like classic pen-and-paper RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons). Much of the story appears to be presented through scrolling text.

Crimson Shroud - Prepare to roll some dice!

The other three games in Guild 01 are:

Kaiho Shojo - Developed by Suda 51/Grasshopper Manufacture, Shojo is a 3D shooter that pits robots against demons.

Kaiho Shojo - Any game by Suda 51 will be insane.

Rental Bukiya de Omasse - Wonder where heroes get their weapons? This RPG stars a weapons shop owner who creates and rents items to others. It's being written by a famous Japanese comedian - presumably the game will be funny?

Rental Bukiya de Omasse - Get ready to sell some weapons!

Air Porter - This is the best one yet. You run an airport and amongst your duties is managing baggage as well as plane departures. Sort of a Sim Airport, of sorts. This one is being developed by Yoot Saito, the developer responsible for Seaman.

Air Porter - Turbojet or Turbofan? Decisions, decisions...

Be sure to check out the Guild 01 image gallery for a variety of screenshots of all four games.

Given the very ecclectic, niche nature of Guild 01, it's unlikely it will ever see release here in North America. Still, it's interesting to hear more about Level-5's development efforts, as the publisher is strongly supporting the 3DS. Now if we could just get the fifth Layton game localized, more details on Brownie Brown's game and get our hands on Layton vs. Ace Attorney...

Rolling dice :damon:

I'll try and keep an open mind for Crimson Shroud because I'm a fan of Yasumi Matsuno, but the idea of a tabletop RPG doesn't excite me at all. Still, Velvet from Odin's Sphere appears to have snuck in though!

Kaiho Shojo/Maiden's Liberation on the other hand, is just batshit crazy. It's exactly what I expect from someone like Suda 51 when he's sober. So in the future, war is conducted with flying humanoid mechs and Japan is a presidential dynasty! Yup, this package definitely sounds a bit too niche for the west, but I hope I'm wrong. The 3DS could really do with crazy things like this.
