Help Got the game, crashed the instant I started playing.

It sounds like it's probably not directly related to the scratches. I think 8 has a higher chance of having problems than 7, especially during the FMV scenes. For some reason it's more delicate (maybe more information in the discs). I've taken care of my game and had a moment similar to yours. What made it worse was that it took awhile to get to the point and you couldn't save right before. So I kept having to try new things to see if it would work and it would take awhile. It was also during a very short FMV scene. What worked for me was simply cleaning the disc with some tissue and water.
 
Ah good deal I hope you can. I bought Chrono Cross From a pawn shop and it looked liked someone took a knife and stabbed a little whole on the back of it. Took it back to the pawn shop and he said I did it, Hope this guy doesnt try to do something similar to you.

That's why you should always look at the back before you buy it. I don't usually buy used games because of the way some people cheat you.

Emulating FF8 is different then FF10, trust me it's much easier and works much better.
 
I'm not trying to say that it may be your PS2 but it just may be. I don't know how old your PS2 is but one of my friends gave me Xenogears to play and there wasn't a scratch on the disc but my PS2 still locked up every time. My friend had always played Xenogears on her PS1 but just a few weeks ago she tried it on her PS2 and it locked up in the same spot that it did on mine.

Since then I've resorted to playing my PS1 games on my PS1 and leaving the PS2 to the PS2 games. It just seems that PS2s have to grind their gears to read the PS1 games.

The disc actually looks WORSE than the one before, but it seems to be going well. I actually got the manual and mini-walkthrough this time :D
