Well, we all know that each character has his/her own advantage/disadvantage over the other characters. Here's some things that I do with my characters.
Zidane Well, he's kind of the all around guy. He's got really good attack stats for a Thief, and his speed leaves almost nothing to be desired. His Steal ability is invaluable, and results in several amazing things that you can sell, use, or even equip sometimes. When you steal enough times, and you get the Thievery ability, you can do major damage for very little MP. He has fairly high health (especially with HP +20%), and his Protect Girls ability is great in the early stages of the game.
Garnet Ok, she is easily one of the greatest FF characters of all time. Her White Magic abilities (when mixed with Half MP especially) are abslolutely phenomenal. Her MP is fairly high, and the summons she gets kick major ass (especially Bahamut). Her Hp leaves much to be desired, and her attack is at best pathetic and (excuse the pun) girly. Her ability to summon some really good guys though makes up for it, and her Eidolon Trance ability is debateably the best Trance in the game (as it summons a beast, and every turn your opponent moves or does anything, the beast attacks and does major damage for free!). Her abilities are very wide-spread, and her Cure, Cura, and Curaga abilities are absolutely amazing, not to mention her status-healing abilities.
Vivi Ok. This little kid is arguably the strongest character in the game. He's eight, he's tiny, and he packs a whole shit-load of power in his magic. His Elemental skills (Ice, Fire, and Lightning) are amazing and do supreme damage. His best skill by far though is Flare. Though it's not an area-available skill, it does absolutely unfathomable damage, and it can be combined with Reflect x2 and Half MP to do absolutely amazing damage. If you equip Reflect-Null, Auto-Reflect, Reflect x2, and Half MP on Vivi, then cast Flare or any other magic on him, it does double damage to one enemy, even if they have Reflect casted on them. Vivi is an asset to any team, especially when paired up with Steiner. The Doomsday Sword (which i will get into later) is a monstrous attack, and can kill off almost any non-boss enemy with 9999 health or less.
Steiner Ok, he's not my favorite, but there's no doubt that he is actually a really good character. His attack alone is realy good, especially in the latter stages of the game, but his Sword Arts can really kick a lot of ass. Stock break alone is a really good attack, but once you get Climhazzard or Shock, there is no doubt that he is a tank. Climhazzard is a boosted Stock Break, which attacks all enemies, and deals major non-elemental damage. Shock makes that Thunder Sword attack look like you poked someone with a pin. I almost always deals 9999 damage, and is a Thunder attack, so it's really good against mechanical or Water-based foes. his Sword Magic skill is not to be toyed with either. This skill can easily turn the tide of battle (though it can only be used when Vivi is in your party), and can do major damage, as long as you do it right. None of these attacks (to my knowledge) can target multiple foes except Doomsday Sword, which has every effect (plus more) of the Doomsday Spell, but without the ally-damage part. It is a nasty attack, and can easily beat any Yan's you may find later in the game (as long as you do it properly and time it right).
Freya Ok, this gal is probably my favorite permanent-use character of all time, and
