As a follow-up to General Nintendo favorites/worsts thread, this is the discussion thread referring to that.
I was introduced to Nintendo platforms, starting with the NES, in 1985. Before the release of Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mario was my favorite Nintendo game series, and Luigi was my favorite Nintendo character. One interesting thing about my Nintendo favorites is the history, centering around the time of Super Smash Bros. Melee, especially about my favorite Nintendo series changed from Mario to Fire Emblem, and how my favorite Nintendo character changed from an internationally well-known male character (Luigi) to a historically obscure Japan-only female character (Ayra). Most of you know about Luigi, who has just been confirmed to return for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but not many of you here at FFF know about Ayra, who is known in Japan as Ira. Early in 2001, Final Fantasy overtook Mario as my favorite game series, and Mario later plummetted way down in my game series list. Marth was put in the Super Smash Bros. Melee roster upon the Japanese audience's request. He was originally planned to be playable exclusively in the Japanese version of Melee, but Nintendo of America gave him a positive reception and decided to keep him in the U.S. version, as well as Roy. When Marth happened to be my favorite character in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Roy happened to be my second favorite one, Fire Emblem effectively overtook Mario as my favorite Nintendo game series. When I discovered the Japan-only SNES game, Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, I was accustomed to that game. I first saw Ayra, who would later overtake Marth as my favorite Nintendo character, in the demo sequence. The main character Sigurd was my favorite Nintendo character at first. I first saw Ayra in-game as an enemy and killed her off. I later saw the GameFAQs walkthrough, and it revealed that she can join Sigurd's party. So I started the game over and got her to join Sigurd's party, but it was difficult to do so. I later got deeper into the game, thanks to the translation, and my true opinion on her started to show more and more, and she effectively overtook Marth as my favorite Nintendo character by a long shot.
For those who do not know, my favorite Nintendo game, Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, was originally released exclusively in Japan on May 14, 1996. "Seisen no Keifu" loosely translates "Genealogy of Holy War." It was rereleased to the Japanese Virtual Console on January 31, 2007. Its gameplay mechanisms quite differ from standard Fire Emblem gameplay mechanisms. It is set in the continent called Jugdral, which is said to be located southeast of Akaneia, where Marth dwelled in. It stars Sigurd and later Celice, descendants of Baldo. Like its predecessor, Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo, which stars Marth, it features the revival of an ancient evil, this time, being known as Loputousu. Super Smash Bros. Melee has no reference to that game, and it is unknown whether Super Smash Bros. Brawl has any reference to it. Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu is something of a holy grail among importers. I also listen to music from that game more than music from any other Fire Emblem game.
For those who do know about my favorite Nintendo character Ayra, let me tell you. Ayra is a warrior princess and regent, from the Kingdom of Isaac, the northeasternmost country in the continent of Jugdral. She has knee-length flowing jet black hair with bangs, and bra-strap length frontal pigtails. As an Isaacian warrior, she is always willing to reciprocate trust, as she would with Sigurd. She cares so much for nephew Shanan, who would become king of Isaac, and goes to great lengths to protect him until he is old enough. Her bodyguard Holyn from Sophara castle in the Kingdom of Isaac, is my second favorite Nintendo character. At the onset of the events of Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, she went into exile with Shanan to Verdane (which is on the opposite corner of Jugdral), because her home country Isaac gets invaded by Sigurd's country Grandbell after barbarians from Rivough castle besiege Darna of Yied Desert. Her father King Mananan was journeying to tell the truth to Prince Kult that Isaacian royalty was not involved in the siege on Darna, but he was assassinated by the Grandbellilan prime minister Reptor of Freege castle, who gets defeated near the end of Sigurd's tale. So her older brother Mariccle assumed the throne as the king of Isaac. Then the Isaacians went into rage and Marricle launched a full scale war against Grandbell. When Ayra and Shanan arrived into exile to Verdane, Shanan liked his new life there but Ayra had no choice but to work as a mercenary for Kinbois until the arrival of Sigurd and Cuan and their squads. Cuan tells Ayra that his father King Calf had a high opinion of King Mananan. Ayra is the first to appear in the demo sequence. She starts as an enemy, but can join Sigurd's party. She started Fire Emblem's Swordmaster class. She is known for being the first to use the Ryuuseiken (or Astra) skill, which hits five or ten times in a row. She is a great suitor for any male member of Sigurd's party besides Sigurd and Cuan ability-wise. She bears Lakche and Skasaher if coupled.

Some sources state that Ayra dies in the middle of the storyline along with Sigurd. However, some sources state otherwise, and that she is actually alive at the time of the game's ending and retired to the Isaacian countryside and became a tiller of the ground.
