I have been discussing this game for a while with some people, and everyone seems to love those gambits...Honestly, i prefer battling without them cause i think its more challenging...

Well, for me it depends on what you're doing. If I'm levelling up I don't want to be stuck there at the PS2 for hours fighting easy and boring battles. That's where gambits come in useful - you can multitask.

When fighting fun and challenging Boss battles I like to tun them off, cause then yeah - it is more challenging.

It makes a hell of alot less annoying cause otherwise you have to input commands for each one which get tedious

seriously, this gambit system is a godsend, inputting commands individually is just so tedious as what gabranth said, and without the gambit system, curing everyones status ailments is just so damn... grrrr!!! I can do it but I takes too much time

I loved them in tough boss battles - proved so effective when going against Tyrant. I lol at the person who said a real FF doesn't need this. Since when are they some kind of expert on battle systems.

I don't like the AI having full control of my characters in battle so I just had the basic games. I think all I did was this.

Party Member 1:
Controlled by me, no gambits.

Party Member 2:
Party leaders target - Attack

Party Member 3:
Ally:Any=<70% HP - Curaga
Party leaders target - Attack

I like to interfere and do the other stuff as because even though you might want them to Cure over say Raise someone, I have been in situations when it could also be best to Raise someone than Cure but with the Gambits on that member will Cure instead. That is why I stick to the basics really. If I am levelling up then I might use the gambits fully then just move the analog while I surf the internet.

I found that gambits were used when you were training and on hell hard bosses. Otherwise on the "mini-bosses" I did it manually but it's to much of a drag and also they make game play much more under control though they have their annoying moments. . . there should be more choices!

i love gambits... they save countless hours of selecting moves and i train heeps so i just leave it on and lvl then when i go it a boss fight i forget to take it off and don't realise it but oh well

Gambits are what the game depends on. Like its been said, its annoying to input seperate commands for each perso. Also, there are many gambits you can create and customize for yourself.

Meh, I think the Gambits help with difficult battles, although, they are a pain in the ass to set up...

Just cause I'm bored right now here is my standard Gambit set-up.

Party Leader (Basch):
Ally: Any ~ Raise
Ally: HP < 20% ~ Curaga
Ally; Any ~ Esuna
Ally: Any ~ Haste
Foe: Nearest Visible ~ Attack
Self ~ Decoy
Self ~ Protect
Self: MP< 10% ~ Charge

2nd Member (Fran):
Ally: Any ~ Raise
Ally: Status = Confuse ~ Esuna
Ally: HP < 30% ~ Curaga
Foe: Party Leader's Target ~ Attack
Foe: Nearest Visible ~ Attack
Ally: Any ~ Haste
Ally: Any ~ Bravery
Self: MP<10% ~ Charge

3rd Member (Ashe):
Ally: Any ~ Raise
Ally: Any ~ Esuna
Ally: HP < 50% ~ Curaga
Foe: Party Leader's Target ~ Attack
Foe: Nearest Visible ~ Attack
Ally: Any ~ Faith
Ally: Basch ~ Regen
Self: MP<10% ~ Charge

As you can see lots of buffs. Only Haste would take place while fighting though, as it is essential for me, using guns. The others would be cast when resting. That setup makes it quite simple for me. The only things I really have to do is Steal, Cast Magicks when there are weaknesses, and occasionally use Curaja if too many of my party gets to low HP.

Ive barely used any other Gambits My characters only have 2 equipped so far, attack enemy leader attacks and heal ally at 70% with cure.

I agree, and this is what Gambits are supposed to be for, there are several sources that'll tell you that Gambits are best when fighting normal enemies, but for tough boss fights like the Hell Wyrm, you can either turn them off or create a completely new set.

gambits failed many times for me, even though i had them set right. it was very irritating when a gambit just didnt work for no reason during a boss fight, especially when i was winning and they didnt heal me like theyre supposed to.

Took me a while to get the hang of the Gambit system, but after that, I really started to enjoy it. I thought it was a refreshing change, it was new, innovative, and fun. I spent hours fiddling with Gambits and perfecting my setup, just because I could. So, basically, yes, I liked Gambits, they were really helpful.

Agree totally....... After I figured out how to set them up they where very useful for wondering around leveling up. When it was "go time" on a boss I would turn them off. I really liked them.

I think this game needs gambits. Especially with the battle system. If it's turn based then you obviosly don't need them so by saying that a true FF doesn't need one, you mean they didn't need them until now?
I totally understand that a lot of people like to be in complete control and I agree but I still find the gambits handy.

Gambits are great but sometimes one of your characters uses a spell and you think fuck I needed those mp for something else.

The gambits are quit useful to me. Because you dont have to keep telling them to heal, use potions ect, when your really into a battle cause they'll do it automaticly.
