Anime Fushigi Yuugi

Well I just watched the entirety of the anime. I thought I'd give my thoughts on it and see who else here has seen it and what they think.

1. So my first thought...

NURIKO!!!!!!!!

It wasn't fair... I knew from early on he died but it didn't stop me from crying. In fact..this show made me shed more tears than any other anime I've ever seen. First Tamahome's family than Nuriko than Chiriko and then Hotohori. Ugh, I'm cried out.

2. I support thoroughly Hotohori x Nuriko.

3. My sympathy was sorely tested by Yui and Suboshi. I understand they both went through a lot and so I felt bad for them usually but sometimes I just wanted to punch them.


Overall, the story was a good mix of drama, humor and action.

Anyone else seen it or read it?

I've seen it and I loved many of the characters. Specifically Takashi? (fire guy?), Nuriko, Hotohori, Chichuri, the twins...

However one thing ruined it for me... MIAKA! God she has to be the most annoying anime character in existance. Her entire plot was: I'm going to go out an do this on my owe.... Miaka gets capture and/or almost raped...Tamahome save me!... I dont' love you Tamahome... repeat cycle

If they had made Miaka a better character I would have liked it, but she unfortunantly she completely ruined the series for me

I watched 33 episodes and forgot most things of it since I watched it more than two years ago, but I plan on watching it again.
I have to agree with Rydia, Miaka was a disaster when it comes to a battle. I really hate characters who can't fight on their own >.<

The anime wasn't all that bad, and the manga was even better. The Tamahome x Miaka thing kinda destroyed it though. Miaka, the annoying brat who somehow miraculously gets men to fall in love with her when she can't even take care of herself. Tamahome, greedy male lead who always ends up giving me a headache whenever I see his face. Yeah, those two were way too flawed for me to like.

Honestly I hate the original Fushigi Yuugi. The main character was just sooo annoying and it was the type of thing that just went back and forth. I am absolutely in love with the prequel though, Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden. I find it much more interesting.

But I did love Tamahome because he just grows on you as the episodes go on.

I love this anime, yet I nearly hate it because of Miaka. She is, undoubtedly the worst female lead ever, and Rydia has nailed her storyline to the T. There's no substance to her character other than being a whiny brat. EVERYONE ELSE however made up where she lacked.
