Freezing after Cleyra?

Okay, so to satisfy those with a desire for knowledge of hardware, I'm playing FFIX on my Playstation 2.

I get to Cleyra's Trunk or whatever, and right after the party goes into the city, it goes black like it's getting ready to load, but it doesn't load... it just stays black.

I thought this was odd, because others who experienced this were emulating the game on their PCs, and said that they could still hear noise, but, alas, I am not emulating it, and I do not hear noise.

Any help?

NOTE: A retry yielded the same result...

This could be due to the condition of your disk or the PS2 overheating, have you checked for these? If they are not at fault try opening and closing the disk tray, though it's for skipping FMVs it might help you get into Cleyra.
 
Ummm.... I think I'll wait for a couple more answers...

I don't see how all of these people could have the SAME problem, and it end up being a disc problem...

Could it be because I'm playing it on my PS2?

This really, really irritates me.

NOTE 2: So I went all the way back to the hut in Burmecia where the moogle was, saved at that moogle, loaded that save game, travelled ALL the way back to Cleyra, and it STILL FROZE!!!!

Chances are your disk is just on it's last legs, old game IS old, my FFVII disk kept freezing around the Fort Condor area, until I eventually gave up and bought a new copy
