Forum, Sub Forum, Sub Forum to that Forum....

Well I can understand the wish to keep Game Reviews and Gamer's Guide because they provide content that is actually different from the rest of Rocket Town. But with so little activity in the rest of them, I think you should consider whether they make things more or less "organized" and cluttered. With the current state of things where all of the active threads in the sub forums would easily fit onto the first page of Rocket Town, I say that the sub forums makes things less organized.

The people who are interested in Fable 2 threads will know it's an Xbox 360 game no matter if it's in the Xbox 360 sub forum or not. Not much of a headache there. At the same time you would save yourself a lot of trouble if you didn't have to worry about what games are multi-platform and where they belong.

I'm gonna have to stand on the ground of that personally speaking, I don't think getting rid of the proposed sections in Rocket Town is going to be beneficial. Like Mits has already, the way it is means it's organized and less cluttered, and while yes, getting rid of the sections may mean it looks busier, in reality it's not, you're still going to have the same amount of replies etc, only it will be cluttered and could become confusing. Also, having the sections as they are means it's less work to do when searching for duplicate threads. So, personally, I'd keep the sections as they are.

They do make the threads more organized. Sure the sub-forums may seem to clutter the main page seeing as there's quite a few of them, but still, it's not doing any harm just by 'being there'. But the main point here is keeping the threads clean and not mixed up all together with the rest, such as the PC games, XBox games, PS games, and Nintendo games. It's been this way since the forum started and it really does help maintain the forum in a more organized manner.

True, but then what about the other countless threads? =] Also, the reason for the Multi-plaform section is because people are accidentally creating duplicate threads due to the fact that a game can be in either a Playstation or XBox section. By having a multi-platform section, the mods can simply move game threads that span across multiple platforms (If they are unsure, all it takes is a quick search in google and there you have it) and prevent people from discussing the same game threads in different sections.

Not to mention that if we were to get rid of the sub-forums, keep in mind that The Rocket Town is more towards threads that are for general discussion (meaning threads that are not 'Game' threads - for instance, 'Top 10 Games' and 'Games You Suck At' discussions.). So if we all mix that up together with the actual game threads (and games mixed together with different game platforms), it's a guarantee that it will be confusing and frustrating for everyone. Dividing the games based on its platform is very helpful overall, so again, it'll stay that way. :)

We've already done a forum clean-up a few months ago and it's a lot better than what it used to be. =]

I think you guys are putting a bit too much into how frustrating and confusing Rocket Town would be if it wasn't for the sub forums. Most other forums with gaming related sections I have frequented don't have anyone crying out in frustration over how confusing it is that the "what's your favourite game?" thread is on the same page as the Halo 3 thread :P

Anyway I never really meant to get into a discussion about it. I'll finish up by saying that as one of the users you try to make the board as userfriendly and organized as possible for, I think that the sub forums do more bad than good. That's my feedback, and I guess it's up to the staff whether to take it or leave it.

I can understand where you're coming from, in that the sub-forums for Rocket Town may be numerous, and therefore frustrating, but from a moderation point of view, I'd say that they are completely necessary.

I mean, I would understand the complaint if the aforementioned sub-forums weren't active, but they are. Mitsuki brought up the very relevant point to me on msn, that if the sub-forums were gone, there would be a whole load of confusion - people wouldn't be able to find certain threads as all of them would be in one section, which would mean there would be loads of active threads to navigate in one place, leading to duplicate threads and therefore, more moderating for us.

We've gotten rid of a load of irrelevant, unnecessary sub-forums in the past. The new system is much easier for everyone, in my opinion. Easier to moderate, easier to find, and just much much cleaner.

A year or so ago it was much much messier, with sub-forums inside sub-forums everywhere. We've eliminated a lot of unnecessary ones.
