Fort Condor Minigame

So far I'm really enjoying my first play through of FF7. Except for this extremely boring, gil wasting, and time consuming minigame. I won the minigame by defeating the enemy commander (and pretty much all of the attacking units), however I never received the Huge Materia? I think I'm on Disk 1 (or maybe 2), I'm not sure I'm playing the PC version. So was all that gil I spent on the minigame for nothing or do you only get the Huge Materia if you beat the minigame much later in the game, or am I missing something?

You will only get the huge materia in a mandatory fort condor story in disc 2. In this particular mandatory minigame, even if the boss reaches the fort, as long as you beat the boss, you will get the huge materia. Just don't lose.

At which part of the story are you in now? It doesn't suffice by saying that you are in a certain disc, because the fort condor battle occurs about 20 times. All but one are optional.

One of the people in fort condor will give you the materia if you win. So talk to everyone if you are not sure which person.
