:gonk:Firion is (I think) the most underrated character in Dissidia.
But really... why?

Is it because he's slow? Is that it? He starts to pick up the pace as he gets better moves and levels up. All his BRV attacks (on the ground) are actually fast, believe it or not. And then there's all the build ons.... etc. I level him up extremely fast. :O Shade Impulse helps with all your problems.
I mean, his story's pretty uninteresting, but he's still a great character ^^ battle likewise. xD
But in Firion's case, speed doesn't really matter for him, he's got all ranges covered: Far long range with his arrows, magic, axe, and spear; up close with his lance, sword and knife; is that good enough? =(
I'm pretty new to the game, I'm not good at mastering techniques and strategies (or even coming up with them >.<), but I picked up Firion really quick, he's a lot easier to use than other characters. ;D If I could... I'm sure more people could too.:nudge:

Ehhh.... prob'ly not. Maybe not. The Wild Roseness is way too detested.

Not only that... but I think he looks cool too. :P (I prefer his alt)

.. Really.. ?

Are you sure..? :P

Because really love Firion reckon that his update character in Dissidia is a awesome improvement from the original game. Had no idea that he was being so disliked, but don't think that is really true because haven't really read any rants about Firion's character * yet * ..

But really love Firion was even going to play through his story first =]

But think that players might play through characters like Terra, Cloud, Cecil, Zidane, Tidus and Squall because they are more common and their games that they came from were more popular and were more loved by fans..

Because FF 2 isn't really one of the most popular Final Fantasy games and think that it's even one of the most hated Final Fantasy games..

Don't think it's Firion, just think that the others came from more popular/ mainstream games and that's why they are getting more attention. Maybe wrong here too, but think that Bartz might be on the same page as Firion..

I really like Firion in FF2, and I was looking forward to using him in Dissidia... and then I did. He's far too slow, and I'm sure people are gonna say "But his moves make up for it!" They don't, not when you're me. I like to be able to run circles around the other characters, and with Firion, it's just not possible.

For me, it's not that he doesn't come from a popular game. I love Bartz in Dissidia, but I can't say that I think FFV is very popular. FFIX isn't either, come to think of it.

The fact that he only has the one HP attack, at least at the beginning, really puts me off as well. I've had Straightarrow blocked multiple times in a row, and it makes me want to chuck my PSP at the wall a few times. Firion is bad for my blood pressure -__-

I have to admit, I haven't used Firion a lot after looking forward to his character so much :gonk: his speed isn't the problem with me, end of the day I can get him speed boost++ if need be, same with jumps and the like to make him more nimble.

The problem I have is his lack of HP attacks, using straightarrow over and over at level 20+ is getting boring fast. If I had double trouble or something, maybe i'd find it easier since i'd have options but... No :jtc:

I agree. Moves don't make up for speed if the opponent is running circles around you. You may get a lucky shot in, but that's about it.

This game is too early in its release for all these generalizations coming up about how fans react to certain characters. First with Tidus, and now this one. Firion is disliked or even hated by some, sure. But Firion has his share of fans as well.

I, for one, am a HUGE fan of Firion after this game. He's one of my top three most used players in the game next to Cloud (whose my main) and Zidane.

His combos are vicious and very effective. His ability to deliver blow backs or pull ins are an added bonus to aid his combinations. And he's a character who can respond pretty strongly no matter what the range, courtesy of his ability to use magic and his variety of weapons. He's very versatile as a ground fighter. The real negative to his character is that he's slower, and has almost no aerial skills.

Still, if there's any real reason why people wouldn't like him, I'd assume it's because people have a tendency to draw towards the "speedy" characters. Firion's not that.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat Firion is great his land attacks are really awesome and he reels opponents in to chain ho attack i really love Firion he is really cool the one I don't really like much is Bartz I hate mimes. He should use attacks from FF5 instead of the dissidia ones.

once firion gets weapons master (is that the name?), enemies have a hard time dodging. and i'm not sure about others, but i leveled all of my dissidia characters quite fast, firion in particular going from 16 to 27 in shade impulse 2.

I leveled him up fast too. I remember during Shade Impule, I got hiim from lvl 39 to 60. O_O

His air abilities aren't amazing, I'll agree with that. >_<
But all his land attacks are what I call freakin epic combos. xD He gets all these build on moves (like Onion Knight) and it's just chain after chain of combos.
I rely on air a lot, his move Weaponsmaster is actually really effective, since the enemy can't really escape it once they're close to it..
*sigh* He'll still always be my favorite in Dissidia. I became a fan of him after this game, just like HighwindPilot. ^_^

i think it is all up to how your play style is....i have to play styles i always need someone that can tank and do speedy fast high damages. firion is a good character but really slow...but some of his attacks make up for it....you can always speed him up with jump++ and speed++

A friend of mine mains Firion. I almost mained Firion, but changed and leveled up others before him (although I still haven't got around to it).
I never realised Firion is rarely used until recently. I thought he was one of the best on the Cosmos' side and I thought Warrior of Light is less popular than Firion. I'm wrong on the latter, since I can find more DFF players who use WoL than I can find Firion.

At least look on the bright side, people wouldn't know much about Firion's moves, so you'll get an advantage at online matches.

It's probably because not many people's favorite or second, third, fourth fifth, sixth, seventh. eigth, or ninth favorite player is Firion. A lot of FF fans didn't even play FFII. I played it but the game isn't that good compared to the PS1 FF's. Most people probably tend to start off with characters they like the most.

I personally did not like Firion over some of the other characters from a gameplay standpoint, simply because everything he does is telegraphed, slow and easy to avoid.

From a character standpoint however, Firion rocks, he may have the simplest goal of the others, but he is one of the few hero characters I actually enjoyed the dialog on voice acting of, the other heroes that I like are Cecil, Zidane and Terra in terms of characters, WoL felt too zealous and dogmatic about everything, Bartz annoys the heck out of me in his dialog with Zidane, Onion Knights squeeky voice gets on my nerves, Tidus is far too "Joey Wheeler" (although I did enjoy his destiny odyssey), Squall is a bit of a duschebag, and Cloud feels rather generic.

I'd definatley say the villain side got the better bunch of voice actors and character progression, Golbez and Jechts progression is brilliant and Kefka is pure win, not to mention they really came up trumps with the choice of Voice acting for Chaos and Gabranth.

Overall Firion (Frionel) probably has one of the best VAs for the Heroes...

On to the matter of playing style. Frionel's playing style is not meant to be offensive or nimble. Instead he relies heavily on close ground combat (exemplified by the priority increase he benefits from in Seize Knives) and Shieldbash. A majority of his air options similarly are meant to further amplify the pressure game he represents. If you want a list of basic Firion combos just visit Mordax's tactics thread. Most of the combos covered are used by online players.

Correction on a couple of things -

Firion isn't extremely underated.
I don't hate him.
He's pretty good actually.
He counters mages well with shield bash.

I only dislike him because he's annoying against bartz my main and I don't really know how to use him properly.

I dont know why people hate firion. He is the best character eva! Hes got so many good bravery attacks which have awesomer branching attacks. And, hes got so many awesome weapons! Plus, his combos are FREAKIN EPIC.

Firion is good against newbies as newbies tend to keep spamming attacks and getting punished.
