Before I start: SPOILER ALERT -> Star Wars Saga, FINAL FANTASY VII Saga, there will be some spoilers so avoid if you never watched Original, Prequel and Sequel Trilogy of Star Wars and any game related to FF 7

So I was playing the Remake today and I am going for 100% of Play Log and in Chapter 14, I saw the scene with Cloud and Aerith. Here I start to think about how she was there, turned out it was a dream. But it really was? Come to think about some scenes from Star Wars where Kylo Ren and Rey speak through the force and are able to see each other. The same happens with Aerith, being an ancient she maybe (intentional or not) have the same ability. We know from the original (better saw in the remake) that the Ancients were those people who were in contact with the nature and were able "to do stuff" or better to manipulate the reality, same as a Jedi/Sith can do.
Before I go further, a little reminder that Aerith and Sephiroth were supposed to be brother and sister, but this was cut out in the end and yet they still remain the same, both have different powers, like Black Materia and White Materia, that in the end they fights. They are same as a Jedi or Sith, both can use the power of force but in different ways.

Like Rey and Kylo, Aerith showed her self to Cloud in a Dream. Now remember Darth Sidious? How he never died but have different clones? Or maybe they were only clones by the force, but the tehory is the same as Sephiroth. We know the one we see in the first part of the game and in the remake is not the original one since he is kinda frozen so he uses some clones to travel arround the world. He is also able to manipulate (in one way or another) Clouds mind and make him see stuff, like the Nibelheim incident. This is the same power as we saw in Star Wars The Revenge of the Sith, when Anakin dreams abot Padme.

It's just a theory, but Square Enix sure took a lot of inspiration from Star Wars back in the days. what do you think?

Hey! Welcome to the forum. :argor:

I've moved this to the FFVII Remake section for you since it mostly pertains to that game.

I find these comparisons fascinating. There are some similarities for sure. Some of the concepts that you refer to, however, predate the Remake and also predate Kylo and Rey and the Star Wars sequel trilogy. For example the Sephiroth 'clones' (which aren't quite what they seem), and the original intention to make Sephiroth and Aerith siblings in an early draft. The original FFVII predates the Star Wars prequels too. But it is possible that Star Wars has loosely influenced the way that Square Enix have dealt with these concepts in their reimagined forms in the Remake.

Some of the religious/spiritual similarities might be because both Final Fantasy and Star Wars have independently drawn inspiration from real-life mythology and religious beliefs. George Lucas was a huge fan of Joseph Campbell's comparative mythology work, for example. But there is certainly space for a more direct route of influence from Star Wars to Final Fantasy, especially considering that the Star Wars sequel trilogy would have been hot on a lot of people's minds at precisely the time that the Remake was being made.

This is certain. Star Wars is one of many things that Square Enix have drawn from for inspiration alongside global mythologies, literature, popular culture, etc. Imported Star Wars collectibles were, I believe, quite popular in some circles in Japan in the 90s (hence at the time that the original FFVII was produced), and it led to some rather obscure Star Wars concepts sneaking into Japanese popular culture in unusual ways.

The Avalanche members Biggs and Wedge are named after the rebel fighter pilots Biggs Darklighter and Wedge Antilles in Star Wars. This duo debuted in FFVI in a Final Fantasy context, but I think there's stuff to say about them in FFVII specifically (being rebels, after all). I actually wrote a whole thing about Wedge and Biggs in the franchise (here).

I don't know if anybody else has commented on this, but I find it interesting that one of the new Avalanche members that were mentioned in the Remake (but never seen) is named Finn. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but he shares his name with the reformed Stormtrooper-turned-rebel Finn in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars, therefore becoming an appropriate companion of Biggs and Wedge. If you like, he could represent the new generation of both Star Wars and Final Fantasy VII. Both Finns turn against the dominant empire and help the rebel/resistance cause.
