Hi, I've just joined this so apologies if I have posted in the wrong bit. I'm playing FFIX on my PS1. I'm having a progression crippling problem and I can't seem to find any similar problems anywhere else on the internet. While I am in a battle, seemingly for no reason and sometimes not at all, the screen goes dark, the time gauge fills and the characters are still moving, the attack/magic/item menu comes up and I am able to select something but while the screen is dark no action is taken. Sometimes the screen will lighten again and I am able to continue but most of the time it just stays dark forever. This odd sort of freeze sometimes only happens for a few minutes but quite often it can go on for absolutely ages. At the moment it is primarily happening in Cleyra on disc 2 but it has happened infrequently earlier on in the game as well. Oddly enough it happens predominantly with larger enemies (e.g. big bird thing in weapon store in Treno, sand monster around Cleyra, Antilion in Cleyra (where I am stuck)) but that might be a coincidence. The disc is unscratched, there is no 'corrupted data' message and all other games (some quite scratched) work fine with the PS1 and the memory card. Any ideas?

Many thanks

seems like your ps1 is starting to go home, try playing it on a ps2 or ps3, it might be the best way :)

I fear you may be right. It's just not the same. My PS2 packed in years ago and my PS3 won't play PS2 or PS1 games. Damn and blast.
