Final Fantasy 2 (SNES) I'm STUCK :(

for some reason i can't get a black chocobo to show up in either of the chocobo forests. i need one to get into cave magnes. does anyone know what i can do or how long it takes for the black chocobo to show up? i keep entering and re-entering the forest but its still the same 3 regular chocobos and the one white chocobo. i've done it about 30 times now...

The only Black Chocobo I can recall is the one in the Forest north of Trioa. If you can't find the little fella there then something must be wrong with game...
