Discuss how the game looks from what you've seen?

From what i've discovered, they're using the stupid 'real-time' battle system. I cannot explain how much i hate that. The reason i stuck with the Final Fantasy series is because Zelda, who in most peoples eyes, is the rival to Final Fantasy, had the 'real-time' battles. Final Fantasy had the turn-based system. That was just how i like it. I feel they're ruining the series by changing the fundamental base of the game.

What also annoys me is the 'Summons'. I haven't played any of the FF's that came out after X-2, but i assume they're all using the 'Summon' that stays and fights the battle for you. I hate that too. Why can't the summon do damage, then go away and come back as and when you need him.

I can't think of any good points in the newer Final Fantasy games, apart from the graphics.

The leveling up/equiping weapons was rubbish in FF10. If i had my way, we'd go back to Materia and normally leveling up and summoning, i don't think i'll like FF13.

Your turn to add some points...good or bad

i think it looks pretty good so far - if its a combo of XIIs battle system with the ATB i would die - literally die.

and Summons that stay and fight for you are GREAT! they add a whole new dimension to it, they literally give you an extra party member, which makes them worth the MP cost.

don't die or you'd miss out on the game!

That's a good point about the summons, i just like the way they used to come and go when you wanted, i thought that was a nice concept.

I'll definately buy the game, but i just hope it'll be better than 10 and hopefully as good as 7.

Im not going to bother with this anal-smelling game. I think FF has gone downhill since XI, maybe even X, but X was alright.

I think FF10 sucked. It just doesn't have the feel of Final Fantasy anymore. Why? I think the locations the games are based are rubbish now. I mean, the opening mission in FF7 was fantastic. The mako reactor was about to blow, and you hop off the train and go and try to stop it. FF8 had you in hospital in Balamb Garden, one of the most beautiful pieces of gaming imagary i've ever seen, along with some great music. FF9 starts with a beautiful scene of a ship in horrible weather conditions, looking like it will sink, then the gameplay starts off with you fighting against Baku and then starts talking about the plot of the game.

I can't even remember the opening to FF10, and the gameplay was awful. Blitzball was rubbish. The graphics were nice. Some music tracks were ok but i felt extremely disappointed. The characters in FF10 had no personality what-so-ever and voice acting in an FF game is a huge no no in my opinion.

I hate voice acting for the simple reason that it forces a character to speak that way, that's how you'll remember them. A 'Fantasy', is your imagination and i always picture the characters talking in a different way. Plus i like to read and not listen to what they're saying.

So put it simply, i agree that FF has gone downhill big style after FFIX. I hope to God that if FF7 OR A SEQUEL is ever released as a video game , they do it old school style and not this new full on anime action-rpg they seem to like doing right now

I just wish FF would go back to the days of VII-IX.

same here.

My theory is basically this: As soon as Squaresoft went to Square-Enix, things changed dramatically. Now i know nobuo uematsu left, but did anyone else leave Squaresoft? Because the games have really lost their magic (no pun intended).

EDIT: Some sites say he didn't leave, others say he did, but helps out with music now and again

ok, i would like to say that 10 was awsome, ok, the voice acting was bad-big deal, it was the first time FF ever did voice acting. And ok, 12 didnt have good voice acting either...ok, nevermind, voice acting is a NO NO....but besides that, i think that the story in 10 was awsome, and dramatic, and cool. Also, i will admit that 9 was a very very great game, and i have replayed it twice. But i think that 13 will be awsome.well, i hope at least.

I just hope the game isn't linear like X. Just going from point A to point B makes games kind of boring to play.

XII was fine. I don't see how the voice acting was bad in it either. If it was good in XII, I hope to see the same in XIII.

yeah about the point A to point B thing, i think i like the concept of a world map you can travel on with airships and boats and whatnot is better then opening up an actaul map and moving the cursor to the new spot you have to go to. thats just my opinion, plus the worldmap always had the best places to level up.

And usually the music was great on the world map. (Apart from FFVIII)

It seems interesting to me. I'm not too sure about the summons though ... It seems VERY sci-fi though, maybe too much for my Fantasy taste to handle :\

From what I have seen, I am really liking this game. I love how they have the main character as a girl. It's classic. The battle system looks pretty decent also. Good stuff. You can tell they are putting some work on this XIII series.

From what has already been unveiled this game looks very good indeed. It isn't entirely confirmed that the girl is the main character (is it?) but having a women as powerful and acrobatic as this is definately a good thing. The battle system looks very nice, after reading and watching the trailer I can see myself awestruck by the mesmerizing moves that wil be unwinding on screen. The world looks nice, albeit perhaps a bit far off the fantasy mark. I'm really looking forward to seeing the summon transformation concept in action; I have faith and I believe it will make for some crazy (Advent Children style) action and stunt sequences (Also Shiva looks great).

I think as FFXIII is Squares first FF next gen entry, i think they will pull out all the stops to make sure that it's a classic like FF7 - FF9 was. It seems they want the FFXIII series to go on for 10 years, and to do that they need to make a FF which is on par, or surpasses FF7.

I reckon FFXIII is gonna rock, lets just hope it turns up on the 360 as i dont really want a electrical spiderman coffin (PS3) :D

To me Ashe's voice was annoyng in Final Fantasy XII and combined with her lines, horrible. But one thing that kept me playing it was the storyline. It was moving and strangely addictive >.>.

From what i've seen FFXIII looks great, awesome graphics, kick-ass character, I just hope they get the right people to voice act those characters.
