[FFXIV] New to Final Fantasy

Hello all, I just started a character on the new Final Fantasy game and have a few questions.

First off, how do you know what level things are and can you inspect other players?

I went to do the very first levequest in Gridania where you kill mushroom looking guys and they kill me before I can kill them. I have somehow managed to get to level 4 physical/2 conjurer without knowing squat about what I am doing.

So my most important question is how do I know I am powerful enough to fight and is there a way to tell before actually engaging the target and getting KOd?

First off, how do you know what level things are and can you inspect other players?

You can inspect other players by clicking on them, going to the menu, and selecting "Check". This will tell you their current class level and equipment. You can get a much more detailed look at other characters by searching for them on the Lodestone ( http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/index.html ).

Yes, when you select an enemy you should see a colored icon next to their name. A blue circle means easy to defeat, green means moderate challenge, and so on. You should try to avoid red and orange icon enemies when possible (red especially, as they can be extremely powerful).
